The NP will Collaborate with MD partners, primary nurses, medical assistants, and support staff to deliver patient centered team-based care. · The NP will independently manage a panel of patients of his/her own, and be responsible for meeting quality, and panel targets as outlined by the department. ·The NP may also co-manage patients within the practice, collaborative with designated physician(s). · As part of his/her role, the NP will perform and record the patient history and physical exam; form an assessment and plan, which may include ordering appropriate testing and imaging, and the interpretation of results and communication of the results to patients. The NP can also expect to consult with and seek physician collaboration, including specialists, when appropriate. · The NP is expected to complete documentation, act upon labs, imaging, and other studies promptly and in accordance with institutional and departmental guidelines, and policy. · The NP is also expected to respond to patient questions and messages in accordance with institutional and departmental guidelines, and policy. · Perform medically delegated aspects of patient care as agreed upon by nursing and medical administrators according to practice guidelines. · Maintain and practice in accordance with practitioner guidelines per state and hospital regulations. ·Maintain and update clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice/research. · Maintain the standards and educational requirements specific to the position and licensure. Administrative: · Complete patient notes and associated documentation within requisite time frame in accordance with institutional and departmental guidelines, and policy. · Evaluate the outcomes of patient care, using patient satisfaction information, MWI, ED & readmission rates and other data as made available by Primary Care Administration, MGPO and other appropriate sources within the institution. · Participate in and reinforce all practice-based process improvement efforts. · Serve as a resource to nurses, medical assistants, and staff for clinical questions/problems and participate in care when indicated · Participate in precepting student Nurse Practitioners in accordance with institutional and departmental guidelines, and policy. · Promote cooperation, support collegial relationships among all staff. Qualifications 5-7 years clinical experience preferred as a Nurse Practitioner in primary care. Master’s degree in nursing required. Current Board certification as an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner required. Position Summary/ Department Summary: This Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will work in the Emergency Department on the Boston BCH Main Campus. Key Responsibilities: Assess and manage patients at all acuity levels with medical and/or surgical complaints. Work in collaboration with board certified pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) physicians, PEM fellows, PAs and NPs, emergency medicine and pediatrics residents, and medical students. Perform detailed histories and physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and develop and execute a wide range of care plans using sound clinical reasoning and critical thinking. Engage in consultations with subspecialty services to aid in patient care. Perform emergency medicine procedures (including but not limited to laceration repairs, incision and drainage, lumbar punctures, joint reductions, splinting, arthrocentesis, removal of nasal/ear foreign bodies, local nerve anesthesia and blocks). Develop discharge care plans with patients and families including prescribing medications and confirming primary care or specialty care follow-up. Work to promote and encourage optimal and realistic patient goals. Communicate with patients and families in a respectful manner leading to compassionate and empathetic care. Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health issues. Assist in the education of medical and physician assistant students rotating in the department. We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Nurse Practitioner (NP) for a flex role supporting patients across the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), Acute Cardiac Care Unit (ACCU), and Cardiac Procedural Unit. This unique role offers flexible and adaptable coverage for pediatric and adult patients throughout the Heart Center—from post-cath recovery to acute inpatient management and intensive care.
