RN-Nurse Practitioner Stroke

Overview Job Summary Position to work in our inpatient Stroke Neurology team at BMH. In this role the APP will treat acute ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. Will coordinate code strokes, in real-time with the physicians, for all patients with acute stroke symptoms and determine eligibility for alteplase treatment and mechanical thrombectomy. Will work closely with the Vascular Neurologists to treat problems in the immediate post-stroke phase for patients in the ICU, step-down unit, and on the med/surg floors. Will determine the mechanism of each stroke and initiate appropriate secondary prevention. Will provide patient, caregiver and staff training and education. Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as chest X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, arterial blood gases (ABGs), and echocardiograms. Perform procedures that include, but not limited to central line placement, arterial line placements, intubation, chest tube insertion, and lumbar punctures, Vascath, Paracentesis, Thoracentesis, Cardioversion. Skilled in use and interpretation of data from complex monitoring systems such as ventilators, blood gas analysis, CPAP, BiPAP, IABP, Impella, ECMO, advanced hemodynamic monitoring devices (i.e. pulmonary artery catheter), and intracranial pressure monitoring. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide evidence-based critical care. Educate patients and families on disease management and post-ICU recovery. Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations.
