Overview NaphCare is hiring a Nurses Practitioner to join our team of medical professionals in Middlesex County Jail, where we manage all aspects of healthcare for the individuals who are currently incarcerated in the North Brunswick, NJ . As a Correctional Nurse Practitioner (NP ), you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to the individuals in residence. Working within a controlled environment, where security is top priority and the days are never dull, you will have various duties to keep you engaged including assessing, diagnosing and treating patients with a range of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribe medications, respond to emergencies, etc. This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex medical needs. Responsibilities Job Duties / Responsibilities The Nurse Practitioner plays a critical role in our continued mission to provide quality care that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Duties and responsibilities may include and are not limited to: Conducting physical examinations, developing treatment plans and monitoring patients Managing acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes. Administering medications and providing instructions to patients Monitoring and documenting patient health including vital signs, medical histories. Providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services. Responding to medical emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities. Educating patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention. Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well-being of patients. Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting any relevant information. Conducting rounds, evaluating patients returning from off-site treatment Admitting and discharging patients from the facility Qualifications Education / Experience / Requirements Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate) Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner Must hold a current unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in NJ Current DEA registration An appropriate collaborative agreement with the on-site Physician Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred) Be certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services. Overview About the Role The primary purpose of the Advanced Practice Nurse position is to improve patient care and systems practice on the Trauma service. The Trauma APN provides clinical patient care to Trauma patients in collaboration with Trauma Physicians, the Trauma Team and with all other health care disciplines. Utilizes advanced practice nursing expertise to provide patient care services, staff orientation, consultation, and evaluation as well as education for patients, families, and health care team members. Works collaboratively with physicians and nursing leadership to identify' patient care and staff development needs. Maintains a clinical tract faculty appointment and serves as a preceptor for students. Participates in staff development programs, patient/family education programs, performance improvement, research and education programs related to trauma.
