Summary To provide comprehensive services to psychiatric patients in an ambulatory setting and coordinate care of patients together with supervising physician(s). The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is a member of the clinical practice team and works collaboratively with other team members in providing patient care. As part of the team-based approach to care, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will participate in coordinating care for individual patients, will support patients and families in self-management, through evidenced-based approaches as may be appropriate, will engage in health center projects that are aimed at specific patient population needs, and will utilize effective and appropriate communication strategies, such as health literacy approaches when working with patients. Essential Duties & Responsibilities 1 Provides psychiatric care to children, adolescents, and adults with acute psychiatric problems. Provides Preventive Health Services according to Practice Standards. 2 Provides telehealth services to patients. 3 Evaluates, diagnoses, treats and makes appropriate use of diagnostic testing and consultation according to delineated clinical privileges and approved MH Clinical Protocols. 4 Collaborates care with primary care providers of EMKCHC patients. 5 Collaborates care and referral to other specialty medical and mental health services. 6 Consults or refers patients with complex or dynamic medical problems to their physician partner. Required Qualifications: Active, Unrestricted License in Massachusetts as an Advanced Practice Nurse. Active, Unrestricted Controlled Substance Number in Massachusetts 3+ Years of prior experience working with Children and Adolescents as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. This work will be in collaboration with the hospitalist service physician or surgical attending physician, and any physician specialists involved with each patient. The supervising physician of record will be one of the hospitalist physicians for purposes of establishing a collaboration agreement for licensure and prescribing status as well as periodic performance reviews. A second supervising physician may be established for surgical cases. Day-to-day nurse practitioner patient care supervision may be delegated to any one of the on-site hospitalist physicians or surgeons, as applicable. The degree of autonomy of the nurse practitioner's daily practice will depend on the details of each particular case and the preferences and skills of the NP. Diagnose mental health conditions using DSM-5 criteria . Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans . Medication Management Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychiatric medications . Conduct follow-ups to assess effectiveness, side effects, and progress . Educate clients and families on medication use and adherence . Therapeutic Services Provide individual, family, and/or group psychotherapy . Utilize evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed approaches . Support clients in building coping strategies and emotional regulation skills . Collaboration & Team-Based Care Work closely with clinicians, social workers, case managers, and other providers . Participate in treatment planning meetings and case consultations . Provide guidance to staff on psychiatric and medication-related concerns . Crisis Intervention & Support Conduct risk assessments and safety planning for high-risk clients. Provide psychiatric support during crisis situations . Collaborate with families to develop crisis management strategies . Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation . Ensure compliance with DPH regulations, agency policies, and billing standards . Stay current with state and federal guidelines . Education & Leadership Provide training and consultation to staff on psychiatric topics and best practices . Support professional development within the clinical team. Engage in community outreach and represent the organization as needed. Qualifications Master’s degree in Nursing (required) Licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) DEA Registration CANS Certification 5–10 years of related clinical experience Valid driver’s license (Class C or D)
