This position requires an expanded knowledge of surgical instrumentation, surgical techniques, human anatomy, surgical retracting, and wound closure. Assembly of complex mechanical devices, strong anticipatory skills, hand/eye dexterity and sequential planning are required. The Certified Surgical Technologist First Assistant is assigned the role of first assistant or surgical scrub technologist depending on departmental demands. All activities are under the direct supervision of the perioperative registered nurse or operating physician. Must meet departmental expectations as it relates to quality and quantity of work. Perform as buddy scrub as required. Build relationships with surgeons. Network with scrub technicians. Correct procedure card for supplies and instruments is identified and used. Sufficient quantities of supplies and instruments are pulled for each procedure. Case carts are completed accurately and promptly.
