This part time position, working hours Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm, no weekends or holidays. Provides practical nursing support in the delivery of quality care for the patient in a physician practice or clinic setting as directed by the physician or mid-level practitioner. Coordinates tele-retinal and tele-dermatology clinic set up. Administers medications and injections as directed by the provider. Maintains work area, exam, treatment and x-ray rooms and lab in a clean, safe manner; restock with supplies and instruments; sterilize reusable equipment as needed. Documents and maintains patient information in the electronic medical record in a timely manner to include update treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, patient concerns, etc. Contributes to Carilion Clinic's performance improvement activities. Provides patient teaching as indicated and directed by the provider, including lab results, diet instructions, medication instructions, appropriate follow-up, and reinforcing provider instructions as needed. Assists with referral authorizations for specialists and pre-authorizations for testing and ancillary services. Assists with lab procedures, including collecting urine specimens, collecting and preparing blood samples for reference lab, labeling all specimens with accurate patient ID. Observes all safety precautions and standards; assures proper disposal of specimens and contaminated waste. LAB (if applicable) Performs lab procedures as directed by the provider including phlebotomy, peripheral sticks, collecting and preparing urine specimens, throat smears; conduct lab testing onsite after appropriate training, including waived and moderate complexity studies. Prepares equipment to begin testing lab specimens. Runs daily quality control tests as directed by lead clinical/lab staff. Adheres to quality control measures with all lab procedures, performing proficiency testing and conducting control testing and calibration on all equipment. Maintains Q/A Plan. RADIOLOGY (if applicable) Performs x-ray procedures as directed by the provider. Takes measures to prevent excessive exposure to patient and self. Completes all documentation and labeling of x-rays. What We Require: Education : Graduate of accredited school of practical nursing required, or new graduate of approved program eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam. What We Require: Education: Graduate of school of professional nursing of an accredited college or graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam. Licensure/Certification : Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure. Life Support: AHA BLS-HCP required. May be required to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on specific work unit. Other: Computer skills required for electronic medical record (EPIC).
