The unit has 20 beds for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. More than 1,000 children per year are admitted into the intensive care units at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital arriving via ambulance, helicopter and airplane from throughout the western United States. The Pediatric Transitional Care Unit (TCUP) is a 18-bed unit for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. The TCU provides care to patients with a moderate to high complexity of disease such as those recovering from solid organ transplantation, titration of anticoagulant therapy and other infusion, and post-operative specialty surgery care (ENT, neurosurgery). Patients requiring respiratory support including BIPAP, CPAP, high flow nasal cannula and patients requiring mechanical ventilation with tracheostomy in place are also routinely admitted to the TCUP. The Nurse Practitioner will act as a full member of the team taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care in collaboration with attending physicians, fellows and residents. Job Description Registered Nurse – Neuro Stepdown – TriHealth Good Samaritan Hospital The 12ABD Neuroscience Intermediate Care unit at Good Samaritan Hospital is dedicated to providing specialized care for patients with neurological conditions. Our team cares for patients with a wide range of neuro-related diagnoses, including those recovering from anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), lumbar laminectomies, strokes, head injuries, and spinal cord injuries. We also manage patients following ENT surgeries and those transitioning from the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU). This 30-bed unit ensures each patient receives attentive and individualized care. A dedicated charge nurse also supports each shift to oversee patient care and assist the team as needed. We are looking for nurses with medical-surgical or neuro experience, but we also welcome new graduates eager to learn and grow in a supportive environment. Balances priorities of the patient's needs and those of the unit/facility. Recognizes emergency situations and takes appropriate action. Completes patient assignment including documentation within scheduled timeframe. Bases interventions on clinical data and desired outcomes and documents accordingly. Trains/educates other staff and acts an expert resource in specialty area through abilities in existing and newer knowledge and skills. Effectively communicates and understands/executes physician orders. Evaluates the plan of care for patient based on optimal specific patient outcomes. Documents the patient/family response to care including teaching. Collaborates with the patient/family and with other members of the health care team, including physicians, to revise plan of care as needed. Supervises the care that was delegated to other health care team members. Performs technical skills according to policy and procedure and accepted standards within their area of practice. Safely administers medications/treatments and monitors their effects. Uses all equipment in a safe, appropriate manner. Demonstrates organizations responsibilities: Identifies areas for self-improvement, functions in relief charge / resource role as requested, completes assignments within scheduled timeframes, cooperates with instructor to facilitate effective learning experiences for students, maintains current knowledge in area of practice, demonstrates knowledge of organizational and department changes. Utilizing the Nursing Process (Assessment, Planning, Nursing Diagnosis, Implementation and Evaluation) monitors, provides and documents professional nursing care to patients in accordance with the medical plan of care, critical pathways, established SRH and Nursing Policies/Procedures/Protocols and Standards of Care. Assists Director with delegated management duties. Works coordinating and delegating the care with/to other professionals and ancillary personnel. Communicates findings as indicated to appropriate person(s). Serves as a resource person for other SRH/nursing personnel to resolve work-related issues.
