Job Summary Under direct supervision of Registered Nurse, provides nursing care within the scope of licensure for assigned patients according to established nursing standards and hospital policies and procedures. Essential Functions Under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse administers medication, performs treatments and patient care responsibilities as prescribed. Consults with and keeps Registered Nurse informed of activities, symptoms, reactions, and changes in the patient’s condition with regard to assigned patients. Provides appropriate pain management techniques and educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Administers medication following the five rights of medication administration within scope of practice. Assists with the rehabilitation and treatment of patients in accordance with the medical plan of care, updates, and revises plan of care under the supervision of Registered Nurse. Assists physicians with examinations, treatments and special procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills as directed by the Registered Nurse. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicates with Social Services/Discharge Planner regarding both in-hospital and post discharge needs. Interprets data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. Basic computer knowledge. Able to organized tasks, develop action plans, set priorities and function under stressful situations. Ability to maintain a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Must have good and regular attendance. Must read, write and speak fluent English. Approximate percent of time required to travel: 0% Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Education Graduate of an accredited program for licensed vocational/practical nurses. Licenses/Certifications Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse License. BLS Certification required. Intravenous Therapy and Blood Certifications preferred. ACLS may be required in certain care areas Experience Minimum six months’ prior experience in an acute care setting preferred.

Job Summary Assists professional nursing personnel in providing patient care in assigned area. Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides for personal care, emotional support and performs more complex clinical skills under the direction of professional nursing personnel. Essential Functions Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of unit activities, needs, and problems related to patient care. Provides general nursing care such as positioning the patient, lifting, turning, applying/utilizing special equipment, assisting in the use of bed pan, urinal or commode, ambulating the patient, preoperative and post operative care, and application of binder or anti embolic stockings, bed bath, oral/hair/back care, changing bed linens, cleaning over bed table, and beside stand, straightening patient room and other general care necessary during the shift. Takes and records temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, and intake and output measurements accurately. Documents in a timely manner. Prepares patient room and bed for admission and transfers and ensures all necessary equipment is in room. Maintains an attractive and comfortable environment for patients with special consideration to cleanliness of room, ventilation, and lighting. Assists in patient admission, transfer, and discharge procedures. Assist with handling and care of patient belongings and other personal property. Answers patient call lights, telephone, and paging system and responds as appropriate. Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, performs routine treatment procedures such as enemas, application of appliances for heat and cold. Able to release, remove, and reapply restraints to patient under the direction of an RN. Ensures patient is in proper position and alignment. Assist Registered Nurse and/or LVN/LPN with complicated patient treatment procedures. Serves and removes patient meal tray in timely manner. Assists with feeding and/or preparing items such as opening milk container, cutting food for patient. Transports patients to an from various departments as requested. Provide post-mortem care and assists in transporting bodies to the the morgue or designated area. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Basic computer knowledge.
