Overview This position is located at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Dir. of Nursing Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Fort Cavazos, Killeen, TX. Fort Hood is a United States Army post located in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove and is approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, 50 miles south of Waco, 160 miles south of Dallas, and 150 miles north of San Antonio. The post is located halfway between Austin and Waco, about 60 mi from each, within the U.S. state of Texas. The post is the headquarters of III Armored Corps and First Army Division West and is home to the 1st Cavalry Division and 3rd Cavalry Regiment, among others. Its origin was the need for wide-open space to test and train with World War II tank destroyers. The War Department announced the location in January 1942, and the initial completion was set for that August. Responsibilities Continuously observe, monitor, and assess infant's condition; interpret signs and symptoms of deterioration in condition; and take corrective action. Assist the physician with complex and potentially life-threatening procedures such as insertion of arterial and venous catheters, chest tubes and endotracheal tubes. Prepare and accompany infants for diagnostic surgical procedures outside of NICU as well as prepare critically ill infants for transport by ground or air-evacuation. Administer intravenous fluids including hyper alimentation, intralipids, and blood products; and deliver prescribed nutrition by oral, gavage, enteral drip or intravenous routes. Operate and monitor technical equipment, such as transcutaneous oxygen monitors, oximeters, ventilators, infusion pumps, syringe pumps, defibrillator, radiant warmers, GE monitor, iSTAT Blood Testing machine, and blood warmers. Educate parents with appropriate literature and information regarding their high-risk neonate including effects of illness or congenital anomalies on long term development of their child. Serve as a resource person for other critical care nurses and health care providers and participate in research studies conducted in the NICU. Attend high-risk deliveries and resuscitate or assist in resuscitation of newborns, as applicable. Serve as charge nurse on assigned shift performing a variety of administrative/floor duties as an extension and in support of the head nurse; and make nursing care assignments to various skill levels of professional and nonprofessional personnel. Overview Our Medical Intensive Care Unit-3 (MICU-3) is a 16-bed unit. Our environment is upbeat, challenging, and embraces a strong team collaboration with nurses, Intensivists, and multiple ancillary departments – demonstrated daily by our multidisciplinary rounds. Responsibilities Audubon’s Neuro ICU Step Down is a 42 bed unit which sees a wide range of patients which are higher acuity. This unit specializes in complex patients with acute stroke, peritoneal dialysis and more. They are Silver Plus Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite and Target Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll certified by DNV as well as certified stroke center through DNV. A professional nurse is an individual accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe effective patient and family centered care, customer satisfaction and quality outcomes. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit, promoting his/her own development with an emphasis on evidence based practice and education supported by a Practice Governance framework.
