Scope Of Position The professional nurse practices, delegates, and collaborates with other team members to facilitate the coordination and delivery of patient care for the assigned patient population. The patient population identified as neonate, adolescent and adult. Reports to Director FBC. Responsibilities Nursing Process - Provides quality of care utilizing the nursing process. Develops plan of care with appropriate intervention for the ante partum, intra partum, post-partum and newborn patients. Supports Breast Feeding initiatives. Leadership - Demonstrates leadership to ensure all patient/family needs are met. Delegates responsibilities to appropriate member of the care team. Has the autonomy capability and motivation to be identified as one of principle care givers for the patient providing appropriate teaching and communicating pertinent information across continuum of patient care. Directs accesses and provides patient care to outpatients as well as inpatients. Professional Behavior - Acts as a role model by promoting a professional and collaborating approach with all members of the care team collaborates and works cooperatively to resolve problems and ensure excellence in clinical practice. This may include acting as a mentor and/or preceptor. Demonstrates and promotes cultural sensitivity. Quality - Actively participates in initiatives to ensure quality outcomes of patient care. Requirements Graduate of an accredited RN program State of CT licensed or license eligible RN BLS/ACLS required Neonatal Resuscitation Certification required EFM Certification - To be obtained within eighteen (18) months of hire Must complete AWOHNN classes - Intermediate then Advanced Fetal Monitoring Classes every two (2) years Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work in a time-oriented environment including exposure to all patient elements in blood borne pathogenics, physical requirement lifting and pulling patients, pushing stretches, standing and walking. Provides general or specialized nursing care to patients in ambulatory setting or clinical practice. Provides nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the standards of practice of a professional nurse, Connecticut Children's policies and procedures and State and federal regulations. Reports to Nurse Manager. Prioritizes, plans, provides direct family-centered care to patients within area of service throughout the continuum of care utilizing time and resources effectively and efficiently. Facilitates the flow of patients within the clinical practice. Partners with child and family in evaluating outcomes. Monitors, trends and evaluates child/family responses to treatment throughout scope of service. Provides appropriate education to patient/family regarding all aspects of care, including telephone advice, based upon established protocols. Serves as advocate for parents and families. Clearly documents all pertinent aspects of care, including: a plan of care; a regular summary of patient status and family adjustment; unexpected events of changes in patient condition; medications; and monitoring of vital signs, etc. Complies with CCMC policies regarding appropriate documentation. Delegates aspects of care to peers and ancillary personnel to meet needs. Serves as a resource to staff within area of expertise. Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific populations from neonate through adolescence and applies them to practice. Education and/or Experience Required: A minimum of ASN/ADN required upon hire; BSN preferred. BLS/CPR for Providers from American Heart Association, or American Red Cross, preferred upon hire and required within 1 month of hire. Must remain current at all times.
