Location: Salem Hospital, 890 Oak Street SE, Salem, Oregon 97301 Department: Neuro Care Unit Position Type: Full Time, 36 hours/week, Non-Exempt Schedule: 7:00 pm - 7:30 am, three 12-hour shifts, variable scheduled days Your role with us As a nurse on the neuro care unit (NCU), you’ll care for patients with complex neurological conditions from strokes and spinal injuries to brain tumors and Parkinson’s disease on a telemetry level unit recognized for excellence by the Joint Commission. You’ll receive specialized training, work closely with expert navigators and physicians, and benefit from Salem Health’s “Care in Place” model, which allows you to follow patients through their entire stay. What you'll do Perform comprehensive, age-appropriate assessments and communicate findings to the healthcare team. Develop individualized care plans considering medical, cultural, social, and developmental factors. Deliver nursing interventions in alignment with policies, patient needs, and care goals, including emergency response. Involve patients and families in care, promote self-care, and support education based on learning readiness. Accurately document all aspects of patient care, including assessments, interventions, education, and outcomes. Communicate clearly and effectively using SBAR, providing timely updates and coordinating with the team. Demonstrate leadership through evidence-based practice, mentoring, and effective charge nurse responsibilities. Support a safe care environment by following infection control practices and equipment safety protocols. Manage time and resources efficiently, including cross-training, floating, and maintaining supply levels. Actively engage in professional development and contribute to unit-based improvement initiatives. Required qualifications Bachelor of Science (BSN) or Bachelor of Arts degree in nursing, or non-nursing bachelor's degree with a Master of Science in nursing (MSN). Candidates with an associate's degree in nursing (ADN) and graduates of a diploma RN program are also encouraged to apply; ADN applicants with less than five years of acute care experience will be required to sign an agreement committing to complete their BSN or MSN degree within three years of hire. Responsibilities Performs hemodialysis treatments in accordance with approved facility policies and procedures. Prior to initiation of dialysis, ensures dialysis machine, its alarms, and all products used during treatment are prepped and meet DCI's quality standards. Monitors the patient during dialysis, assessing any emergent changes in the patient's condition and communicating any issues to the physician as well as the patient's family. Administers and charts all prescribed pre, intra and post dialysis medications. Follows CDC/CMS regulations with strict reinforcement of infection control. Participates in patient care conferences, medical rounds and chart reviews as assigned. Documents patient education to ensure compliance with local ESRD Network, CMS, and DCI requirements. Interacts with local hospitals as a liaison to facilitate continuity of care. Assists in teaching and training new staff members as directed by the Nurse Manager. Collaborates with all staff members and renal team members to maintain medication inventory Ensures the dialysis machines are functioning properly and maintains an adequate stocking of unit supplies. Qualifications A Degree from an accredited Nursing Program is required. New Graduate Registered Nurses are welcome and encouraged to apply.
