Job Summary and Qualifications Position Objective: The RN Behavioral Health is primarily responsible for adhering to the hospitals Standards of Patient Care to deliver safe and quality patient care. The RN performs all treatments and procedures as outlined in the Standards Manual and applicable regulatory and professional entities/ guidelines, standards, protocols and procedures within the scope of RN practice. Patient Population Served : The Geropsychiatric Unit RN is expected to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the physical ability, intellectual development, psychosocial, education and safety needs of the geriatric patient. Applies the interdisciplinary plan of care, monitoring for effectiveness. Administers medications and monitors for desired, side or adverse effects. Provides instruction to patient. Applies behavioral and supportive therapeutic approaches with individuals and groups to accomplish clinically sound behavior management outcomes. Evaluating Plan of Care Reviews and updates the interdisciplinary treatment plan in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the patient and the family. Communicates ongoing care needs to caregivers regarding discharge planning (nursing homes, group homes, families, etc.) Establishes a therapeutic relationship with the patient focused on empathy and clinically appropriate, evidence based treatment modalities. Applies principles and techniques of crisis prevention and intervention. Maintains a safe therapeutic environment for patients, families, staff, and corrects hazards promptly. Adheres to hospital safety policy and procedure. Provides patient education to patient/family minimally regarding the hospitalization disease process and medications. Documents all pertinent information on the patients medical record in an accurate, detailed manner adhering to policy and format for charting. Documentation is relevant, legible, clear and concise. Assumes Charge Nurse role upon demonstrated knowledge of responsibilities when assigned. Participates actively in department meetings: patient care rounds, interdisciplinary staff meetings and nursing staff meetings. Supports Departments customer service efforts. Provides service excellence to patients and their families, medical staff, peers, support services and other hospital personnel. Provides immediate and satisfactory problem resolution for valid customer complaints or refers complex customer service problems to the Clinical Coordinator. Enrollment in a BSN program within the first year of hire and completion within 3 years. Current American Heart Association BLS certification. Must hold an active RN license in the state of employment or valid multistate compact license, and be a graduate of an accredited nursing program Job Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) manages and coordinates the nursing care activities during the client's hospitalization in accordance with organization policies and procedures. This includes assessment, diagnosis, planning and establishing outcomes, implementation, and evaluation. Based on this process, the RN directs and is responsible for other personnel involved in client care. The RN maintains professional accountability for all nursing care provided to clients in the organization. Demonstrates competency in nursing judgment. Maintains awareness of economic barriers of health care and acts accordingly. Demonstrates knowledge of nursing care needs and treatments for clients of various clinical specialties in compliance with established standards of nursing practice. Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Provides appropriate nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of clients on the unit. Makes nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees. Accurately and promptly implements physicians’ orders. Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications. Records information concisely, accurately and completely. Coordinates and provides emergency care as needed. Evaluates the performance of personnel with recommendations for appropriate action. Adjust interventions based on age appropriate guidelines as indicated. Demonstrates abilities to set priorities in directing and/or providing safe client care by functioning in an organized and time conscious manner.
