Education and Skills for Urgent Care Registered Nurse Jobs

Walk-in clinics serve patients of all ages who have non-life-threatening conditions — from a sore throat and runny nose to a surface burn and sprained wrist. To be an urgent care RN, you’ll need a nursing degree from an accredited program. This means either an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Then you must pass the NCLEX-RN exam to become licensed to practice. Some urgent care RN positions may prefer candidates with at least a year of experience in acute care or an emergency department. In addition to basic life support (BLS), consider obtaining additional relevant certifications such as:

• Ambulatory care nursing certification (AMB-BC)
• Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN)
• Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN)
