About the Role: Department Overview The Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Gainesville is licensed for 26 beds with flex bed capacity of 35 that primarily provides care for premature and term neonates. Treatments are performed under the orders of NGMC credentialed physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners who have privileges to practice at NGMC; and within the policies and procedures of NGMC and the scope of practice for registered nurses and respiratory therapists as defined by State of Georgia. Level III Mechanical ventilation High Frequency Oscillator Ventilation (HFOV) Inhaled Nitric Oxide (NO) Level II capabilities plus: Provide sustained life support Provide comprehensive care for infants born before 32 weeks of gestation and weigh less than 1,500 grams and infants born at all gestational ages and birth weights with critical illness Provide prompt and readily available access to a full range of respiratory support that may include conventional mechanical ventilation and/or high frequency ventilation and inhaled nitric oxide Perform advanced imaging, with interpretation on an urgent basis, including computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiography Patients are cared for in the following Neonatal Units: Transition Nursery (Nursery A), Intermediate Care Nursery, Special Care Nursery, and Intensive Care Nursery. About the Role: Department Overview The Cardiac ICU is a 24 bed inpatient unit with bedside monitors for hemodynamic monitoring. The unit provides comprehensive care to cardiac/vascular/surgical patients requiring intense monitoring and nursing care. Patient care in the Cardiac ICU includes early detection and prevention of complications, management of complex physiological problems, patient/family education and family psychosocial support systems. The unit’s focus is patients requiring cardiac and vascular surgery, TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement), Mitral Clips, ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), CRRT (continuous renal replacement therapy), ventricular assist device (VAD), IABP (intra-aortic balloon pump), Impella, and advanced ventilator management. Patients on this unit include: • Critically ill, unstable patients in the need of intensive treatment such as ventilator support and continuous vasoactive drug therapy. • Patients who may qualify for Priority 1 include those who suffer from reversible disease or acute illness and are admitted for aggressive medical/surgical treatment that cannot be provided elsewhere in the hospital. Area/Unit Specific Essential Tasks and Responsibilities: Hospice Plans nursing visits in accordance with agency policy and implements all aspects of the maintenance of current POT, including documentation in accordance with the orders as scheduled with no more than two variances, annually. Responds appropriately to emergency situations as indicated by the assessment findings and nature of the patient’s condition, in accordance with service policy and procedure. Provides hospice aide/homemaker duties and continuous care to appropriate patients when assigned. The LPN assists with the collection of data from a variety of sources to enhance clinical decisions about treatments and nursing interventions. The LPN provides feedback to the registered nurse in the development of nursing diagnoses and carries out the established plan of care and documents reassessments, interventions and patients’ responses to interventions. The LPN carries out therapeutic interventions established in the interdisciplinary plan of care. The LPN provides feedback to the registered nurse continuously in the evaluation of interventions and treatments and how they affect patient health status and expected outcomes. The LPN supports the evaluation of care activities, education and practice environments to ensure the provision of safe, quality care. The LPN participates in educational activities to improve clinical knowledge and enhance role performance.
