The tech recognizes and addresses sharps and fire safety processes. The scrub tech prepares the operating room and instruments for the surgical procedure. The scrub tech may assist with sterile processing. This tech will assist the surgeon(s) during the procedure but stays within the ORT scope of practice. The scrub tech is able to identify emergency situations and exercise judgement when implementing procedures to respond to emergencies. On completion of the procedure, the tech will assist with room turnover, cleaning, and prepare for the next procedure. The scrub tech is expected to participate in training and mentoring. This is separate from the clinical coach role (i.e. students, orderlies, etc.). This person will also provide or assist with at least one educational offering or a short-term project per year to the department under the direction of the OR Manager (i.e. skills lab, in-services, equipment review, x-ray gown inventory etc.) Minimum Qualifications: Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
