Position Summary The Registered Nurse – Cardiac Cath Lab reports to the Assistant Director, Cardiac Cath Lab and provides specialized nursing care for patients undergoing diagnostic, interventional, and electrophysiology procedures. This position is responsible for pre-procedure assessment and preparation, intraprocedural monitoring and support, post-procedure recovery coordination, patient and family education, and accurate documentation in accordance with nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and departmental protocols. The RN collaborates closely with cardiologists, advanced practice providers, technologists, anesthesia and procedural support teams, and other members of the cardiovascular care team to promote safe, efficient, high-quality, patient-centered care. Essential Position Responsibilities Perform comprehensive nursing assessments for cardiac catheterization, interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, and related cardiovascular procedures, including review of history, medications, allergies, laboratory results, procedural risk factors, and readiness for sedation or intervention. Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care across the pre-procedure, intraprocedural, and post-procedure phases, including patient preparation, vascular access site assessment, medication administration, procedural monitoring, recovery care, and discharge readiness. Monitor hemodynamic status, cardiac rhythm, vital signs, level of consciousness, oxygenation, pain, and overall patient response during and after procedures; promptly identify changes in condition and communicate concerns to the procedural physician or appropriate provider. Assist with emergency response in the cardiac cath lab, including STEMI activations, arrhythmia management, procedural complications, rapid clinical deterioration, and other urgent cardiovascular events in alignment with ACLS standards and department protocols. Administer and monitor medications, anticoagulants, antiplatelet therapy, contrast-related interventions, moderate sedation support, reversal agents, and emergency medications within scope of practice and organizational policy. Maintain sterile technique and infection prevention standards while supporting procedural setup, patient positioning, room turnover, equipment readiness, and safe workflow in collaboration with cath lab technologists and procedural team members. Complete timely, accurate, and thorough documentation of assessments, interventions, medications, procedural events, patient response, education, handoff communication, and discharge instructions in the electronic medical record. Educate patients and families regarding procedure expectations, post-procedure care, access site precautions, activity restrictions, medications, follow-up instructions, and symptoms requiring medical attention. Participate in departmental quality, safety, regulatory readiness, competency validation, call coverage, and process improvement activities that support high reliability, patient safety, and efficient cardiovascular service delivery. Qualifications Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program Licensure and Certifications: Current Arkansas Registered Nurse license, required. CPR/BLS required. ACLS required within 90 days of hire. Annual dysrhythmia competency required. Additional department-specific competencies, including moderate sedation, radiation safety awareness, and cath lab procedural competencies, must be completed as assigned. Experience: Previous nursing experience in cardiac cath lab, critical care, emergency services, procedural services, cardiovascular services, or a comparable high-acuity setting preferred. Work Environment : This position has exposure to body fluids, radiation, and communicable disease. This position spends the majority of time standing and/or walking of short distances, with frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting of up to 100lbs as well as occasional carrying of up to 25 lbs. Root Cause Analysis Support Assist in gathering data and chart-level detail to support root cause analysis of quality gaps, missed measures, or process breakdowns. Participate in root cause analysis discussions with the Practice Transformation and clinical operations team, contributing frontline and chart-level context. Help document findings and proposed corrective actions from root cause analysis reviews. Support tracking of corrective action follow-through to confirm identified issues are resolved. Patient Outreach – Care Gap Closure & Care Coordination Conduct patient outreach (phone, MyChart, or mail) to close identified care gaps and schedule needed services. Educate patients on the purpose and importance of recommended screenings, visits, or services tied to open care gaps. Identify and address barriers to care (transportation, scheduling conflicts, insurance, health literacy) and connect patients with appropriate team members for resource referral. Coordinate with referral sources, specialists, and community resources to support timely closure of care needs. Document all outreach attempts, outcomes, and follow-up actions accurately and timely in Epic. Episodic Care Management & Post-ED Outreach Identify patients with recent Emergency Department visits through ED notifications, Epic reports, or care team referrals. Conduct timely post-ED outreach to assess patient status, understanding of discharge/ED instructions, medication or follow-up needs, and risk for recurrent ED use. Coordinate scheduling of needed follow-up appointments with the PCP or appropriate specialist. Essential Position Responsibilities Performs comprehensive patient assessments before, during, and after dialysis treatment, including review of vital signs, laboratory data, fluid status, vascular access, and overall clinical condition. Provides acute dialysis nursing care in accordance with physician orders, established protocols, and standards of practice, using sound clinical judgment and safe nursing techniques. Initiates, monitors, and discontinues dialysis treatments while observing for patient tolerance, treatment effectiveness, and potential complications, and escalates concerns promptly to the appropriate provider. Maintains accurate, timely, and complete documentation of assessments, treatments, interventions, patient response, and communication with the care team. Collaborates with nephrologists, hospitalists, bedside staff, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care, support treatment goals, and promote continuity of care. Assists with patient and family education related to dialysis treatment, plan of care, safety precautions, and follow-up needs appropriate to the patient’s condition. Supports a safe care environment through adherence to infection prevention practices, equipment safety standards, departmental procedures, and regulatory requirements. May assist with orientation of new staff, supervision of students, and cross-coverage or floating to other areas when qualified and competent to do so. Qualifications Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Licensure and Certifications: Valid Registered Nurse license and CPR certification, required. Valid driver’s license and auto insurance required, if applicable to assigned duties. Experience: Acute care nursing experience preferred. Dialysis experience is preferred but not required. New graduate nurses and experienced nurses may be considered based on department needs and training capacity. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of nursing principles, patient assessment, documentation standards, infection prevention, and safe medication administration. Ability to communicate effectively, prioritize in a fast-paced environment, respond to changes in patient condition, and work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team. Work Environment : This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting in the delivery of patient care and operation of dialysis-related equipment. The role may require moving or assisting with equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Work is performed in a hospital environment with exposure to communicable diseases, blood and bodily fluids, and other conditions common to direct patient care settings.
