Transfer Center RN

The Transfer Center Nurse is the first point of contact when a regional provider is seeking assistance for their patient through the Billings Clinic Transfer Center. The nurse coordinates conversations with providers to care for patients in their home community as well as coordinates the transfers when a patient is needing a higher level of care. The ability to manage competing priorities and technologies without compromising accuracy, efficiency, and safety is essential to the success of this position. The Nurse must possess outstanding customer service skills, proficient knowledge of pathophysiology and disease processes, and astute critical thinking and triage skills. Essential Job Functions • Performs nursing triage to identify the providers, clinicians, and staff necessary to support medical conversations and transfers Billings Clinic • Orchestrates patient movement in the Billings Clinic system with regard to balancing bed supply and demand and reducing or eliminating unnecessary delays • Engage ancillary partners, charge nurses, and others to identify and resolve barriers to throughput • Provides support to the Administrator on Duty (AOD) and Patient Placement roles • Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic’s mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. RN - Pre/Post Op and 23 Hour Stay - Bozeman

The successful Pre/Post-Op and 23 Hour Stay Surgery Center RN will be an integral component in facilitating patient flow and throughput while maintaining high levels of quality care which are consistent with recognized national nursing standards, legal requirements and Surgery Center policies and procedures. The duties will encompass the pre-operative care area and post-operative care area, which include both phase I and phase II recovery as well as the 23-hour extended stay unit. Essential Job Functions Oversees and directs the care of the pre-surgical/post-procedural patient and works collaboratively with all members of the health care team to provide optimal care to the patient throughout the patient's experience. Evaluates and completes assessment of patient needs to provide supportive care before, during and after surgery and maintains complete and accurate records. Provides safe, therapeutic, and quality direct patient care to the pre-operative and post-surgery patient by utilizing the nursing process and nursing diagnosis in a timely manner, setting appropriate priorities. Recognizes and interprets symptoms indicative of changes in condition of patient and communicates appropriate information to co-workers, surgeons, and anesthesiologists concerning patient care. Safely carries out physician's orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities. Communicates and interacts with patients and family in a positive and supportive manner. Assists in patient education during all phases of the patient's experience. Ensures informed signed consents are completed prior to administration of sedation. Prepares all records pertaining to the procedure. Maintains equipment and supplies to include cleaning and disinfection of equipment, operates and troubleshoots specialized equipment and patient monitoring equipment, anticipates and assists with maintaining adequate inventory of supplies and medications. Post procedure assists with inventory control by proper count of supplies/time used. Assists in crash cart maintenance and defibrillator checks. Accountable for administration of drugs, IV procedures and other therapeutic and diagnostic measures in a safe and accurate manner. Initiates orders and follows anesthesia protocol. Staffing working in the pre-op area and phase II area maintain ACLS. Staff working phase I maintain both ACLS and PALS. Label's specimen containers in front of the patient and prepares specimens for the laboratory. Completes discharge procedure safely, providing proper post-operative instruction and assists patient to vehicle. Initiates and participates in patient and family education. Complies with cost containment practices. Provides oversight and direction to other Surgery Center technical and ancillary personnel. Assists with orientation and training of new or existing staff members. Identifies and anticipates problems and safety issues and initiates appropriate corrective action. • Maintains appropriate theoretical and clinical skills with application and patient relevance of commonly utilized equipment specific to the Cardiology Department and other areas as appropriate; pharmacological application; application of laboratory values and radiologic findings with disease process or physiological status. • Utilizes performance improvement principles to assess and improve the quality of patient care. Evaluates current nursing practices within the Cardiology Department to identify opportunities for modification that would enhance professional practice, maintain or improve patient care while remaining fiscally sound. • Identifies needs and sets goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains proficiency and knowledge within a rapidly changing environment. • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the Cardiology department or organization.
