Summary GENERAL SUMMARY The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled individual that works in a healthcare setting to support the non-clinical and clinical functions of the service area. Summary GENERAL SUMMARY The Director of the NICU/Neonatal Service Line facilitates a collaborative partnership with the NICU, NNP/PA program, Neonatal Breastfeeding Medicine, Fetal Diagnostic Center, and Neonatal Follow-up Clinic. The Director provides leadership and direction for both inpatient and outpatient neonatal services. The Director is accountable for overall operations, direction and delivery of patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all patients on a twenty-four-hour basis. A high level of independence in performance of the role and/or solution of problems is expected, however, demonstrated cooperation and collaboration is equally essential for successful functioning. Reports to the Vice President of Patient Care Services. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities include but are not limited to implementing evidence-based nursing practice to achieve operational excellence, facilitating respectful and productive interdisciplinary collaborations, promoting and monitoring a culture of efficient, results and customer-oriented services, as well as coordinating staff educational opportunities and certification processes. Implements nursing policies and procedures that conform to current standards of nursing practice, CHKDHS philosophy and operational policies while maintaining compliance with state and federal rules and regulations. Ensures that each nurse is properly certified and abides by established standards of care and with laws and regulations. Establishes and maintains appropriate standards of practice for assigned areas, in accordance with CHKDHS policies and external regulatory guidelines. Collaborates with physicians in the proper treatment of patients. Reviews daily and other reports from the units to monitor and ensure timely and effective responses to issues and problems. Develops and recommends annual budgets for assigned areas. Development of processes to promote quality of service, budgetary compliance and overall operations of the departments. Provides clear direction regarding budget expectations, setting performance expectations and desired outcomes. Contributes ideas and suggestions to improve methods and productivity in assigned units while maintaining high quality patient care. Mentors and coaches’ managers and nursing staff, either directly or through managers, to ensure professional development. Collaborates with other departments, such as I.S. Infection Control, Quality, and others, in enhancing safety, process improvement and other initiatives. Monitors operations and quality standards to assure compliance with governmental regulations and the established standards of accrediting agencies, including federal research regulations. Maintains appropriate standards of practice and standards of care throughout the Neonatology service areas. Leads, manages, coaches, and trains a team or department, provides guidance, support, and mentors to ensure optimal performance and productivity.
