The CNA assists patients with the tasks outlined in their clinical competency assessment related to basic nursing skills, personal care skills and basic restorative services. The CNA practices and performs what was taught during their CNA training and certification or learned during basic nursing courses at an accredited school for professional nurses. The CNA may be asked to provide continuous safety observation. This job reports to the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager of the assigned unit and the RNs on duty on each assigned shift. Major responsibilities of this role will include one or more of the following: o Perform/direct ACLS o Independent rhythm interpretation and defibrillation o Administration of advanced lifesaving medications o Independent, templated (“RN-only”) visits for patient assessment, with action taken based on established protocols and/or clinical practice standards using clinical judgement to determine intervention timing/specifics. o Specialty patient education where certification/additional certificate is required for role (listed in job requirements) o Sedation o Telemetry monitoring & interpretation/management of rhythm changes o Assisting with complex procedures - (RN doing care / work on patient, or RN has role in treatment / procedure, etc.) o Advanced wound therapy (VACs, debridement, etc.) o Central line management (TPA administration) and maintenance (dressing / cap changes, access / flushing) o Device interrogation and interpretation with resultant action o Complex infusions (concurrent infusions, hazardous medication administration, blood and blood products, etc.) Work may also include patient care coordination, direct patient care, patient education, telephone triage/eVisits, and performing/assisting with minor procedures.
