A Brief Overview The Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) provides intermediate level care to patients with congenital and acquired heart disease as well as those with primary rhythm abnormalities. Patients include medical and surgical cardiac patients with an age range typically spanning newborns to young adults. These patients may include those with non-invasive ventilation, such as CPAP/BiPaP and stable trachs. Some patients require continuous inotropic infusions to support their heart function while others require mechanical support such as ventricular assist devices (VADs). As a unit dedicated to inter-professional collaboration and education, we strive to provide care to our patients and families while on the continuum of their inpatient stay within the Cardiac Center.
