The University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center ASC is seeking 50% to 100% Pre/Recovery/PACU Staff Nurses to assess patients’ nursing care needs, evaluate and provide Pre-Op and Post-Op care and teaching as appropriate to the patient and caregivers, integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice. Provide leadership to members of the nursing team in order to maintain patient care standards. Characteristic Duties of our Staff Nurses include but are not limited to: Incorporate the scientific, behavioral, and humanistic principles into clinical practice. Adhere to departmental standards, policies, and practice guidelines. Apply nursing theory to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patient responses. Analyze initial and ongoing assessment data to determine diagnosis and patient outcomes. Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients and follow universal precautions. Implement emergency care procedures when necessary. Maintain skills/competency related to special equipment, medications, and procedures. Participate as a member of the health care team utilizing effective communication skills. Participate in the development of unit, department and hospital wide policies, procedures, and protocols. Review staffing issues and recommend cost containment strategies. Serve as a member of various University Shared Governance committees, as directed. Perform other projects or tasks as assigned. Participate in the orientation of new nursing staff and their ongoing education and training. Maintain patient rights and confidentiality and serve as a patient advocate. Calls in medication refills under the direction of a Physician or protocol. Documents patient care information in the outpatient medical record according to standards. Completes accurate billing and coding activities for all patient encounters according to CMS guidelines and initiates reimbursement for medically necessary visits in accordance with applicable law and regulation. Provides training and continuing education for staff. Assists in development of clinical practice guidelines/standards in support of quality palliative care. Adheres to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff and the organization. Collaborates/Communicates with Medical Director, attending physician, branch leadership and IDG. Performs other duties/projects as assigned. What is Required? Masters Degree in Nursing and certification through a national Nurse Practitioner Licensing board. 3+ years clinical nursing experience 1+ year post-graduate clinical nursing experience in the hospice and palliative care field. Prior experience in Family Medicine, Geriatrics and psychiatry preferred. Current licensure in the state of practice as a Nurse Practitioner and maintain such licensure in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. Board Certification in Palliative Care Preferred. Active DEA license. Able and willing to travel up to 50% as needed to support business and patient needs. You will report to the Branch Director.
