EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS : A graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program, technical program or related. Must be certified to perform CPR with 0-2 years of clinical experience in a related field. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Prepares and maintains medical equipment for surgical procedures. Before an operation, surgical technologists help prepare the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions. Follows hospital regulations and industry procedures to tend to patient during pre-operation procedures. Performs pre-operation preparations to the patient's skin, body and medical equipment. Assemble both sterile and non-sterile equipment, as well as adjust and check it to ensure it is working properly. Get patients ready for surgery by washing, shaving, and disinfecting incision sites. Transport patients to the operating room, help position them on the operating table, and cover them with sterile surgical “drapes.” Observe patients’ vital signs, check charts, and assist the surgical team with putting on sterile gowns and gloves. Pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants. Hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. Help prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens taken for laboratory analysis and help apply dressings. Operate sterilizers, lights, or suction machines, and help operate diagnostic equipment. After an operation, help transfer patients to the recovery room and clean and restock the operating room. Performs other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS : Ability to be on your feet for long periods and lift or turn disabled patients. Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. What You Will Do: As a Surgical Technologist, you will function as the scrub person during invasive and operative procedures. Under the direct supervision of an RN or physician, you will facilitate a physician's performance of therapeutic, diagnostic, and invasive procedures. You will ensure the operating room is safe, equipment is functioning, and patient safety is maximized throughout the procedure. What You Will Need: Education: Associate’s Degree. Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (CST) preferred or equivalent military training. Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a hospital operating room setting. Assists in room preparation, obtains necessary supplies, and sets up cases per the preference card. Picks cases following physician preference card. Quality Care Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals, including, but not limited to surgical time-out, medication/fluid labeling on the sterile field, hand hygiene, and use of personal protective equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of procedures by anticipating needs prior and during each case. Identifies problems and takes appropriate action, without prompting, to accomplish department objectives and improved quality of care. Participates in teaching and mentoring new employees. Role models the Sharp Experience. Finance Assist in achieving department expense per unit of service through judicious use of supplies. Identifies opportunities for cost containment or improvement of patient care. General Support Works additional or different shifts as requested and where appropriate. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Solid understanding of anatomy, aseptic technique, surgical procedures, instruments, sterilization, and OR safety. Must have skills in setting up sterile fields, passing instruments, maintaining counts, and anticipating surgeon needs. Must be able to communicate clearly with the surgical team, respond quickly to changes, maintain strict attention to detail, and uphold infection prevention standards.
