SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: SCRUB TECH Stocks patient rooms and carts/drawers. Commutates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers, and physicians. Consults other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs. Assists RN’s and LPN’s with patient care activities such as bathing, feeding, walking, changing positions, oral hygiene, newborn screenings, hearing screenings or other tasks requested. Assist RNs and LPN’s with housekeeping duties. Assists Nurse Supervisor and Manager as requested. Documents patient data in appropriate computer/paper system. Vital signs on a stable patient. Emptying drains and foley bags and reporting results to assigned nurse. Keeps accurate intake and output. Retrieves all lab results and prenatal records from computer and brings the results to the attention of the charge nurse. Takes specimens to the laboratory. Demonstrates and ability to be flexible, organized, and functions under stressful and emergent situations. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Interact professionally with patient/family and provides explanations and verbal reassurance. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Proficient in hearing screening protocols. Proficient in newborn screening protocols. Ability to operate newborn safety system (HUGS). Answers telephone/intercom in a timely and polite matter stating name and department and communicates information to the appropriate personnel/family. Prepares paper medical records for discharged patients and new admissions. Admits patients when admission personnel are not available. Both mom and baby as needed. Notifies appropriate nursing staff to assist patient/physician in the care of the patient. Logs all patients in the computer system upon admission, delivery, transfer, or discharge. Is able to use the Nurse Call System. Answers patient call lights and responds quickly and appropriately. Is able to enter report information for report sheet into the computer and print out for the unit report. Is able to use the computer system to locate and print out policies and procedures. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Rotates from desk and floor assignment.
