Essential Functions: Is responsible for performing the scrub role and assist with all aspects of the care of the surgical patient according to policy and procedure and care standards. Ability to take direction from others and follow through in a concise manner, which also promotes efficiency. Ability to communicate using written, verbal, non-verbal skills when interacting with staff, physicians and ancillary departments. Ability to set priorities. Application of sterile and aseptic techniques Knowledge of anatomy & surgical procedures Acts to protect and advance patient’s best interest. Maintains knowledge of equipment, expected patient outcome, and anticipated complications. Employees possessing one to two years’ experience can make application to become a first assist. If not certified as a first assist, they will be required to attend a class for basic first assist skills, and provide and return demonstration in a competency-based class. Satisfactorily demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description as well as continually demonstrates competency in performing the job duties. Surgical Tech Qualifications: High School graduate or equivalent required. Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology Certification as a Surgical Tech preferred. Effectively communicates, both orally and written. AHA BLS healthcare required within 30 days of hire, if not currently certified.

Memorial Surgery Center has a career opportunity for an experienced Surgical Scrub Tech. MSC is a multi specialty outpatient surgery center providing services in Ophthalmology, Podiatry, ENT, Plastics, Orthopedics, GI and General Surgery. As a valued staff member you will have no nights, call or weekend shifts. Job Summary: Anticipates the needs of the surgical team. Establishes and maintains sterile field during surgical procedures in the operating room. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Ensures sterility of all supplies and instruments during set up of surgical procedures. Assists circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment. Assists circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment. Is responsible for doing sponge, needle, and instrument count pre-operatively and intra-operative with the circulating nurse. Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants. Assists in keeping physician preference cards accurate/updated. Retains all specimens to be sent to pathology, confirming source/name of specimen with surgeon. Transports all surgical equipment to appropriate cleaning areas. Assists in sterile supply with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets. Interacts appropriately and effectively with all patients/others regardless of age or ethnic background. Uses Standard Universal Precautions, appropriate hand hygiene, personal protective equipment, and safe practices to ensure personal safety and a safe environment. Assists with environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and participates in emergency preparedness drills. Follows all equipment and safety guidelines and is responsible for knowledgeable use and care of equipment. Serves as a resource to other members of the health care team. Attends inservices, conferences, and meetings as required. Communicates effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians, and their office staffs, patients, and employees.
