The Wound Ostomy RN provides expert assessment, consultation, and direct patient care for individuals with complex wound, ostomy, and continence needs. This role serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff and interdisciplinary teams, supporting best practices and quality outcomes across the hospital. This is a per diem day position. Job Description: Key Responsibilities Perform comprehensive assessments of patients with acute and chronic wounds, ostomies, fistulas, drains, and skin‑integrity concerns. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team. Provide direct patient care, including advanced wound treatments and ostomy education. Conduct patient and family teaching related to wound and ostomy management, appliances, and long‑term care strategies. Serve as a resource and consultant to nursing staff and clinical teams regarding wound/ostomy care best practices. Participate in product evaluation, quality improvement initiatives, and development of clinical protocols. Document clinical assessments, treatment plans, and patient outcomes in the electronic medical record. Support hospital-wide initiatives to reduce pressure injuries and improve skin‑integrity outcomes. Qualifications Current Massachusetts RN license required. ADN with relevant experience required; BSN strongly preferred. WOCN (Wound, Ostomy, and Continence) certification required. Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience; wound/ostomy nursing experience strongly preferred. Strong clinical assessment skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Excellent communication, teaching, and problem‑solving abilities. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access. Develops and deploys evidence-based clinical protocols and algorithms to support the best clinical outcomes for wound management, including development and updating product formulary. Establishes competencies for clinicians regarding wound care. Collaborates with Medical leadership on wound care initiatives, research questions, and outcome measures to support program innovation and excellence. Develops educational modules for wound care to be used for internal and external education, including teaching tools for patients and families. Analyzes patterns of wounds across programs and hospitals, and identifies targeted PI activities to improve wound outcomes and mitigate pressure sore development. Establishes individual programs and courses directed at increasing staff knowledge, competency, and credentials in support of individual job objectives and the overall goals and mission of the organization. Coordinates competency evaluation and testing for professional staff in collaboration with clinical departments. Works in collaboration with Education department to assure coordination of all educational initiatives and activities to support the overall objectives and goals of the department and the organization. Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing and other clinical education programs. Maintains the database to track staff education, competency and credentials and utilizes the database to evaluate and plan for future educational activities and programs. Works under the direction of the Director of Education on nursing education projects and initiatives related to skin, wound and ostomy management. Collaborates with other members of the Education Department on joint educational initiatives. Performs other duties as requested. Required qualifications Possess a Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing, or in a field deemed to be equivalent by the Oregon Board of Nursing. Have satisfactorily completed a Nurse Practitioner Program recognized by the Oregon Board of Nursing. Hold a current, unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the State of Oregon. Hold valid, unencumbered Nurse Practitioner national certification issued American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or National Certification Corporation (NCC), or an equivalent Medicare/Medicaid approved certifying body or be actively seeking certification and obtain the same in the specialty area requested within 24 months of privileges being granted at Salem Hospital. Hold DEA certification. At least 12 months as an Advanced Wound Care Nurse Practitioner during the past three (3) years, required.
