Children’s Nebraska has an exciting opportunity to join our Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Transport team!

Our NNPs work collaboratively with flight nurses to provide state-of-the-art neonatal care, utilizing fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and critical care ground ambulances throughout Nebraska and surrounding states. As a stand-alone neonatal team, we often operate in multiple states within a single shift. Transporting neonates demands critical thinking and places personnel in diverse situations with unique logistical challenges. Are you up for the challenge?

Children’s Hospital of Nebraska offers a unique opportunity for a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) to join our dedicated neonatal transport team. As a free-standing hospital with over 75 years of service, we provide exceptional care to children nationwide, including our 52-bed Level 4 NICU. Our CAMTS-accredited transport team, comprised of NNPs, Flight Nurses, and Emergency Medical Technicians, works collaboratively to deliver outstanding patient care. We operate four ground ambulances and often utilize Children’s Hospital dedicated air assets such as an EC130 helicopter and a Pilatus PC-12 fixed-wing aircraft.

The NNP is responsible for managing the care and transport of neonates from referring facilities. This role requires proficiency in flight and ambulance treatment modalities, altitude physiology, and emergency procedures. Utilizing an advanced nursing process, the NNP will assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, while accurately documenting patient responses and outcomes.

This position requires proficiency in neonatal pathophysiology and technical skills, including lab and x-ray interpretation, intubation, line placement, thoracentesis, thoracotomy, and intraosseous access. In collaboration with physicians and referral teams, the NNP must demonstrate strong leadership through nursing judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. As an advocate for patients and families, the NNP must maintain professional conduct and communication. Additionally, knowledge of healthcare economics is necessary to ensure cost-effective resource utilization.

We are the only team in Nebraska specializing in the stabilization and care of neonatal and pediatric patients. Transportation is available by a dedicated ambulance, helicopter, or fixed-wing plane, allowing us to provide extended coverage to patients throughout the region to any higher level of care.

Assumes leadership role to establish and monitor standards of practice to improve patient care including recommending ways to improve clinical practice, participation in related educational activities, utilizes and/or participates in research, participation in professional organizations and performance improvement teams, and incorporation of new clinical information into practice. * Serves as a role model for staff by facilitating, supporting, mentoring, taking initiative, and practicing proactive problem solving. * Serves as a reliable and visible resource for staff. * Conducts or utilizes research and new clinical information to recommend ways to improve clinical practice. * Participates in educational activities and networking related to practice. * Seeks experiences and learning opportunities related to practice. * Participates in professional organizations. * Serves on Performance Improvement teams as needed. * Assures that clinical practice meets national standards of pediatric healthcare. * Coordinates project or program development and effective implementation Prescribes therapeutic measures and medications according to the State of Nebraska APRN/NP Statutes, as approved in his/her individualized Scope of Service, according to organization's policy. * Dispenses, incident to practice only, sample medications, which are provided by the manufacturer and are provided at no charge to the patient. * Prescribes therapeutic measures and medications, except controlled substances listed as Schedule II, related to health conditions within scope of practice. * Directs other team members in the delivery of patient care as determined by the needs of the patient.
