REQUIREMENTS:
*Must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Professional Nurse issued by the State of New York.
  1. Training or experience in working with children with various disabilities.
  2. School health experience working with middle school aged students.
  3. Clinical nursing experience or background.
  4. Experience working with students with chronic health conditions.
  5. Relevant experience to this setting and position.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  7. Ability to work as a member of a team.
  8. Diligent record keeping skills.
  9. Maintains student confidentiality and adheres to FERPA/HIPPA regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assessment of health complaints, medication administration and care for students with special health care needs.
  2. Managing emergencies and urgent situations.
  3. Mandated health screening programs, verification of immunizations, and infectious disease. monitoring/reporting, creation of health care plans, emergency care plans, teaching unlicensed personnel in the administration of emergency medications (glucagon, epi).
  4. Identification and management of student's chronic health care needs that affect educational achievement
  5. Submission of required State DOH surveys (immunization, BMI/WSC), and thorough completion of required documentation.
  6. Participation in nurse meetings, and as needed on CSE Committee. Participation in staff development activities.
  7. Representation on building teams or committees as requested by principal, District Nurse Practitioner, Coordinator of Student Services and/or Assistant Superintendent for Exceptional Education.
  8. Adheres to current standards of care, standards of the profession and standards of documentation, district approved policies and procedures, as well as medical protocols under the direction of the District Physician and Nurse Practitioner.
  9. Monitors equipment in the health office, initiates process for repairs and interval calibrations, ordering of approved supplies.
  10. Assists in the implementation of concussion management protocols.
  11. Oversees physical verification for student-athletes (fall, winter, and spring season) as needed.
  12. Provides student-specific in-services as warranted.
  13. Provides direct care to students.
  14. Provides leadership in the provision of health care services.
  15. Provides screening and referral for health conditions.
  16. Promotes health of students.
  17. Provides liaison services between school personnel, family and health professionals.
  18. Serves in a leadership role for health policies and programs.
  19. Other responsibilities as requested by the Building Administrator, Coordinator of Student Services, District Nurse Practitioner and/or Assistant Superintendent for Exceptional Education and Student Services.
