Under the general direction of the Chief Nurse Executive is responsible for the direction, coordination and control of the functional activities of the Critical Care Department.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Critical Care Department collaborating with the Chief of Medicine and the Chief Nurse Executive.

Duties & Responsibilities
Purpose:
Under the general direction of the Chief Nurse Executive is responsible for the direction, coordination and control of the functional activities of the Critical Care Department.
Specific Duties And Responsibilities
Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Critical Care Department collaborating with the Chief of Medicine and the Chief Nurse Executive.
- Interpret policies and objectives of nursing services to staff and community groups; promotes harmonious working relationships with other departments/community groups.
- Assumes responsibility for the selection of personnel for service.
- Keep abreast of current nursing technology and professional techniques and disseminate the latest developments in the field to nursing staff.
- Conducts/participates in meetings/conferences/seminars with various health care-related hospital committees/outside agencies.
- Direct, coordinate and control the execution, implementation, and revision of departmental policies/procedures to assure attainment of nursing department goals/objectives.
- Investigate nursing care deficiencies/complaints, prepare responses and follow up on corrective action.
- Serves as a resource person and assumes responsibility for the Nursing Department as designated on weekends and holidays.
- Monitor and follow up on patient care incidents to ensure adequate reporting and corrective action as necessary.
- Ensures compliance in accreditation/regulatory, TJC standards, and participates in surveys and performance improvement activities. Ensures patient and staff safety.
- Other responsibilities as delegated by the CNO
- Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State; and,
- A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or an equivalent field, and a minimum of four years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three years of which shall have been in a hospital; or,
- A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
