Position Summary:

As a registered nurse at Pomerene Hospital it is our responsibility to support the mission, vision and values within the organization and out in the community. Pomerene nurses will demonstrate support of the hospital's strategic plan in a team-oriented environment. The registered nurse also performs all job duties in compliance with laws, regulations and in observance of accrediting agency standards and related professional organization standards.

Service: 

The Float Registered Nurse will demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe, timely, effective, high quality, age and culturally appropriate, cost conscious, and evidenced based care while utilizing the nursing process. The RN assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and supervises patient care on an individualized basis, according to organizational policies and procedures. Based upon the level of registered nurse's qualifications, the RN may be assigned to work on other nursing units based on patient census and staffing needs.


Department Specific Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of nursing experience preferred 
  • Active State of Ohio RN licensure- required 
  • Associates degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred 
  • Skills; Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; proficiency in nursing preferred


All Certifications listed below are a requirement of the job: 

  • Complete BLS certification (and maintain every 2 years) within orientation period
  • Complete ACLS certification (and maintain every 2 years) within orientation period
  • Complete PALS certification (and maintain every 2 years) within six months
  • Complete NRP certification (and maintain every 2 years) within six months
  • Complete ASLS certification (and maintain every 2 years) within first year of employment
  • NIH Stroke Scale completion within orientation period 
  • FEMA 100.b and 200.b courses within orientation period
  • TNCC preferred
  • NIMS preferred

 

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Moves throughout the facility as needed, appropriately assists in emergency drills and situations, and demonstrates the physical, clinical, and professional capacity to provide direct patient care as described in the tasks and duties of this position.
  • Coordinates patient care as assigned, which includes assessing and interpreting patient care information and data.
  • Compliance with all nursing and hospital policies and procedures
  • Provides appropriate patient and family education.
  • Works cooperatively with unit staff, physicians and ancillary departments.
  • Adapts readily to a changing work environment and is able to perform with frequent interruptions.
  • Maintains high standards for professional nursing practice.
  • Performs all tasks and duties of this position according to hospital and department policy and procedure.
  • Actively supports and encourages Primary Support Person (PSP) / Family involvement in patient's care, with consent of patient. Includes PSP / family members in discussion of nursing plan of care, medications, consultations with physicians and discharge instructions. Encourages PSP / family member presence at the patient's bedside and participation in the patient's care
  • Patient Care/Nursing Process: Identifies and considers a patient's physical, spiritual, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, age-specific, educational/learning needs, and cultural beliefs utilizing the nursing process while incorporating them into the nursing plan of care, teaching plan of care, discharge planning process, shift assessments and documenting in an accurate and timely manner on all assigned patients during each shift.
  • Nursing Plan of Care: Actively participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the nursing plan of care on admission and throughout the patient's hospital stay involving all members of the heath care team including the patient and their family.
  • Documentation: Completes all nursing care, tasks and assessments according to hospital policy/requirements. Documents in an accurate and timely manner. Maintains an accurate medical record.
  • Delegation & Prioritization: Demonstrates ability to delegate and prioritize patient care while utilizing critical thinking skills and the nursing process during the delivery of patient care according to standards of professional nursing practice.
  • Communication: Communicates work needs and reports pertinent information to physicians, intra- departmental co-workers as well as intra-organizational co-workers in a timely manner according to patient needs through verbal (e.g. shift report, phone calls, person-to-person) and written methods (e.g. patient chart & hand off communication tools). Communication is clear, concise and easy to understand.
  • Patient Care/Emergent Response: Responds and intervenes to emergent situations/sudden changes in a patient's condition in an appropriate manner. Utilizes and participates in the Rapid Response Team as well as Code Team as situations require
  • Unit Specific: 
  1. Ability to shift between departments at a moment’s notice.
  2.  Desires compliance in meeting department goals.
  3. Triage of patients according to ESI.
  4. EKG Strip Recognition & Interpretation.
  5.  Demonstrates leadership abilities and able to work independently.
  6. Knowledgeable in use of EMR system.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Extra Tasks & Projects: Demonstrates the ability to take on extra tasks and projects voluntarily, when requested or required. Cooperates with Charge Nurse/Manager when asked to assist co-workers and offers assistance to co-workers when needed while maintaining the quality of their own work assignment.
