Job Description

As a Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for providing patient support and communication and facilitating an exceptional patient experience to build and reinforce satisfaction, trust, and drive organizational loyalty. Accountable for welcoming and preparing the patient for their appointment, the Medical Assistant informs patients of relevant and required information for their visit and provides clear communication around the services they are scheduled to receive. 

How You Will Get Things Done: 

  • Performs point-of-care laboratory tests, EKGs as ordered or indicated, suture/staple removal, dressing changes, and other patient care activities 
  • Collects and documents vital signs, histories, and screenings 
  • Authorizes prescription refills as directed 
  • Prepares patients, room, and supplies for visits or examinations 
  • Performs phlebotomy and correctly processes specimens 
  • Cleans and maintains treatment rooms and equipment 
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience to Drive Change: 

  • Certified Medical Assistant or eligible within 90 days of hire 
  • 1 year of experience preferred 
  • Phlebotomy experience required 
  • Current BLS certification for healthcare providers preferred; required within 90 days of employment 
  • High School Diploma/Equivalency required 
  • Experience in primary care, family practice, internal medicine, urgent care or ER preferred

Job Summary The Transplant Clinic ACU is a multidisciplinary ambulatory care unit dedicated to providing high-quality, patient-centered care to solid organ transplant patients across the continuum of care. The clinic supports patients undergoing evaluation, transplant, and long-term post-transplant management while partnering closely with adult and pediatric specialty teams to optimize patient outcomes and experience. The Transplant Clinic ACU supports multiple transplant programs including kidney, liver, lung, heart, and living donor services and works collaboratively with providers, nursing, allied health professionals, and operational teams in a fast-paced and highly specialized environment. The clinic is committed to operational excellence, compassionate care, teamwork, and continuous process improvement while supporting the complex needs of transplant patients and families. This position will partner closely with Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Heart Transplant, and Transplant Operations teams to support the pediatric heart transplant patient population. Responsibilities* Assist with various procedures (arthrocentesis, wound care, etc.) Assisting patients with mobility restrictions, e.g. getting out of wheelchair on to exam table Basic clerical tasks that require proper telephone technique, basic typing, computer and data entry skills Basic medical assistant competencies (EKG, medical history, vital signs etc.) Clean and stock exam rooms Injections and specimen collection and processing Maintain supplies Obtain insurance authorizations Patient flow Provide patient with appropriate educational/preparation information for procedures Retrieve laboratory reports Work directly with physicians and nurses regarding patient concerns/issues/questions Work in MiChart electronic records (notes, update patient medication lists) Adheres to high standards of teamwork by demonstrating adaptability, flexibility and consistently shares information and resources with others Documented history of excellent attendance and punctuality Effective time management skills/consistently uses available time effectively Excellent customer service skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (e.g. ability to provide and receive constructive feedback, seeks constructive approaches to resolving workplace issues) May be required to cross cover other areas May be required to work overtime Strong attention to detail Works well with minimal supervision Required Qualifications* High school diploma or GED. Completion of a Medical Assistant program OR current enrollment in, or completion of coursework in a healthcare professional program (e.g., medical school, PA program, nursing program, or related clinical training) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience (1 - 3 years). Knowledge of basic medical terminology. Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring patients.
