Make a meaningful impact in the lives of medically fragile students as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in a supportive school environment. This full-time, full-school-year contract position involves providing essential one-on-one care, rotating between students and campuses near Oakland, CA. Experience fulfilling, hands-on nursing where every day brings new opportunities to connect, educate, and advocate for students' health and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct nursing care to students ages 4-22 with complex medical needs
- Review and implement individualized seizure and health plans
- Conduct staff training on health protocols and emergency procedures
- Act as an on-call resource for urgent student health concerns during school hours
- Communicate with parents to foster trust and ensure consistent care
- Assist with tasks including gastronomy, bladder catheterization, diabetes management (CGM use, insulin, and carb counting), managing ASD/developmental delays, and responding to hypo/hyperglycemia
- Administer medications such as EpiPens and Benadryl as needed
Qualifications:
- Current LPN/LVN license for California
- Proven experience with medically fragile pediatric populations and specialized procedures (gastrostomy, catheterization, diabetes management)
- Comfortable working itinerantly across multiple campuses
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and families
- Bilingual Spanish skills a plus, but not required
