Position Summary:

Lawrence Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team. The School Nurse plays a vital role in promoting the health and well-being of students by providing direct nursing care, supporting chronic health conditions, administering medications, and collaborating with families, educators, and healthcare providers. This individual will contribute to a safe, healthy, and inclusive learning environment that supports every student's ability to thrive in school.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Provide personal care, assistance, and supervision to students as needed
• Assist with maintaining classroom supplies and ensure cleaning and care of medical and adaptive equipment
• Support students' educational programs by assisting with positioning at computers, paper placement, and materials management
• Utilize adaptive equipment to promote student independence and safety
• Collaborate with parents and school nurses to develop and implement individualized health care plans
• Provide emergency care and first aid in cases of injury or sudden illness, followed by appropriate referrals
• Maintain accurate student health records and document all health-related activities and treatments
• Complete accident reports and daily logs for classroom-based care
• Assist school nurses in ensuring new students meet immunization and health screening requirements
• Help organize, implement, and report on mandated health screenings within assigned classrooms
• Monitor and recommend exclusion/readmission for students with communicable diseases
• Maintain classroom medical supplies and equipment in accordance with safety standards
• Collaborate with community health providers and state agencies to support students' needs
• Serve as a health resource for students, parents, teachers, and administrators
• Identify and report health and safety hazards within the classroom
• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and district policy
• Perform other health-related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Strong clinical knowledge in pediatric and community health nursing
• Skilled in personal care and medical support within school environments
• Ability to effectively respond to emergencies and provide first aid
• Proficiency in documenting health services and maintaining accurate records
• Familiarity with adaptive equipment and accommodations for students with disabilities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to collaborate with families, teachers, and healthcare professionals
• Sensitivity to and respect for diverse student backgrounds and health needs
• Bilingual skills strongly preferred

Qualifications & Requirements:
• Graduate of a Practical Nursing Program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
• Current Massachusetts license as a Practical Nurse
• 1-3 years of experience in pediatrics, community health, or a related field
• Proficient in English; bilingual applicants preferred
• Current CPR and First Aid certification (preferred or must be obtained upon hire)
