Job Description

The perioperative registered nurse (RN) is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the operating room for all patient populations.

This primary position at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Surgery Center, Malvern, will include collaboration with Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware and the Nemours Children’s Hospital, Surgery Center, Deptford, to optimize available resources in achieving optimal patient outcomes. This position may require travel to these facilities. Travel is compensated based on organizational policy.

This position is expected to maintain all state and federal licensure and clearances for PA, DE, and NJ for periodic rotation to the facilities in Delaware and New Jersey at the discretion of Perioperative Leadership. This includes active registered nurse (RN) licensure in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey, and current Pennsylvania (PA) FBI Fingerprint Report, PA Criminal Background Record, and PA Child Abuse Clearance.

This position requires working shifts aligned with the needs of the department and the assigned FTE of the RN.

Schedule: full-time, 60 hours biweekly, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM. No Weekends, No Holidays, No Call

Responsibilities

  • Provides age-specific, culturally competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice.
  • Assesses patient’s immediate pre-operative, intraoperative, and immediate post-operative status at intervals in compliance with organizational policies/procedures.
  • Develops an individualized perioperative patient plan of care.
  • Protects the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources.
  • Performs accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items in compliance with organizational policies/procedures.
  • Performs interventions necessary to ensure that the patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level.
  • Manages patient specimens according to organizational policy and procedures.
  • Communicates the patient status to relevant parties throughout the continuum of care.
  • Provides/administers medications safely and correctly in compliance with organizational policies/procedures.
  • Performs interventions to maintain the patient’s wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline level.
  • Performs interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period.
  • Performs interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection.
  • Evaluates patient progress toward attaining outcomes.

Qualifications

  • PA RN License upon hire required
  • Apply for DE RN License within 6 months from the date of hire.
  • Apply for NJ RN licensure within 1 year from the date of hire.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS required, American Heart Association (AHA) PALS required, schedule AHA ACLS within 1 year from the date of hire

Reports adverse patient events at home or in the clinic as well as equipment and technology related problems to the Clinical/Home Therapies management and physician including the correct documentation of such events. Laboratory Related: Reviews, transcribes, and enters physician lab orders accurately into the Medical Information System. Follows company policies and government regulations related to the collection, packaging, and delivery of lab specimens and reporting of results. General Duties: Maintains competency with all emergency operational procedures, and initiate CPR and emergency measures in the event of a cardiac and/or respiratory arrest when the patient is in the medical office. Administers medications as prescribed including following algorithms (as appropriate), and document appropriate medical justification if indicated and maintain records on controlled substances as required by law. Maintenance/Technical: Maintains appropriate skill level in the operation of all home dialysis therapy-related equipment, including the ability to troubleshoot equipment problems with the patient via telephone. Directs patients in the preventative maintenance of home therapies equipment, including water systems and analyses as appropriate. Coordinates with the company products division on the delivery, operation and maintenance of all home therapy dialysis equipment. Medical Records & Documentation: Admits all new patients and documents as needed. Documents all relevant data including physician orders, lab results, vital signs, and treatment parameters, and patient status and any treatment related data appropriately, and enters into Medical Information System. Participates in and ensures all company policies regarding patient admission, transfer, and discharge are appropriately implemented.
