How you make a difference

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides a full range of psychiatric services to incarcerated patients in accordance with state scope of practice, collaborative protocols, and established policies. This role delivers direct psychiatric care while also providing clinical consultation to mental health and healthcare staff. The position works within state guidelines to support consistent, high-quality psychiatric services across the facility. Clinical consultation and supervision are sought as required under applicable collaborative practice requirements.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric evaluations, treatment, and follow-up care while exercising independent medical judgment.
  • Monitor and manage psychotropic medications, including effectiveness, side effects, and required follow-up.
  • Collaborate with mental health, medical, and administrative teams to ensure consistent psychiatric and mental health services.
  • Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation and participate in required meetings, consultations, and on-call coverage.
  • Support crisis intervention, referrals, transfers, and emergency or involuntary treatment processes as allowed by scope of practice.

Psych NP Needed for PT, 16hrs weekly Day Shift (7am - 3:30pm)

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Master in Science of Nursing or Post-Master’s Certificate from an accredited nurse practitioner program with a specialty in psychiatric mental health across the lifespan.

Experience

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as a PMHNP required, or may be waived if approved by Vice President of Advanced Practice Program.
  • Corrections experience in a PMHNP role preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Unrestricted current license to practice as a PMHNP in the state of practice.
  • Current board certification as a PMHNP.
  • Current DEA Registration (unless Chief Psychiatric Officer determines it as optional).
  • Current BLS certification.

Nurse Practitioner Physician Assistant Job Description Position Summary: Conducts comprehensive health assessments, demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill in the diagnosis and treatment of complex responses of individual, families, and communities to actual or potential health problems. Formulates clinical decisions to manage acute and chronic illnesses and promote wellness. Integrates education, research and management, leadership and consultation into clinical role and functions in collegial relationships with nursing peers, physicians, professionals and others who influence the health care environment. Provides health care in accordance with standards of practice as delineated by state practice guidelines and national board certification organizations. Major Responsibilities: Provides diagnostic and assessment services. Secures a health history from patient and/or family, records findings, and evaluates them. Performs a complete in–depth physical examination. Orders/performs pertinent diagnostic tests based on age and history. Analyzes data collected to determine health status and identify differential diagnoses based on history, physical exam, and clinical findings. Partners with physicians regarding proposed plan of care. Formulates this plan of care with the patient. Manages therapeutic regime as outlined by established protocols for patients with acute illnesses. (Protocols are guidelines concerning patient care that are established between the physician and nurse practitioner. The guidelines outline subjective and objective findings, treatment plan and follow–up). Reassesses and modifies plan as necessary to achieve medical and health goals. Confers with physician for clinical direction as outlined by protocols. Documents patient care outcomes to determine effectiveness of plan of care. Communicates outcomes with physician. Position Qualifications: License/Certification/Education: Required: A Bachelor’s degree and Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Current Massachusetts license, issued by the Physician Assistant Board, and current NCCPA certification. A Master’s degree and graduation from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Preferably ACNP/AGACNP Acute Care/Critical Care clinical experience required Board Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Massachusetts Controlled Substances Registration and federal DEA Controlled Substance Registration are required.
