Position Summary
Functions as a staff nurse under the guidance and supervision of an experienced R.N. Performs routine patient care assignments and carries out established nursing procedures utilizing the nursing process.
Education
Hold a current Texas permit or license as a Registered Nurse. Current BLS required upon hire or transfer to department. PALS certification required within 6 months of hire or transfer to department. BSN preferred.
B. Training And Experience

B. Training And Experience
- Infusion Service nurses require a minimum 1-year appropriate experience as a registered nurse. Acute care setting is preferred.
- Successful completion of general and nursing orientation within 3 months of hire.
- Complete the following competencies within 3 months of hire or transfer:
- Unit Orientation
- Unit Safety
- Attendance requirements
- Demonstrate Nursing Process elements:
- Assessment
- Diagnosis

- Intervention
- Evaluation
- Appropriate documentation and chart review
- Demonstrate ability to analyze lab results appropriately
- Demonstrate appropriate steps required for safe administration and handling of chemotherapeutic agents
- Proper patient preparation (diagnostic studies, perioperative, teaching, permits and consents
- Age-specific care
- Body Substance Isolation
- Blood and Blood Component Administration
- Participation in Code Blue
- Restraint Use
- Demonstrates knowledge of various VADS (PICCS, Groshongs, Port-a-caths, Pass Ports)
- Attends appropriate PICC/Midline training sessions within 6 months of hire.
- Demonstrates technical skills necessary for successful placement of PICC lines.
- Ability to perform:
- Heavy lifting
- Sustained standing and walking
- Work under stress
- Varied work hours and shifts
- May encounter exposure to infectious diseases.
