Responsibilities The certified nurse midwife (CNM) is an advanced practice nurse who is responsible for the assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation of nurse midwifery care delivered to antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum, and newborn patients. The CNM performs physical exams, collects and documents data, manages labor and spontaneous delivery, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, and prescribes appropriate interventions and medications. Qualifications MSN Required Three (3) years of nursing experience Must have current or unrestricted licensure in the state of Georgia as an advanced practice nurse. Current certification by the American College of Nurse Midwives. PREFERRED: Knowledge of professional nursing theory, clinical practice standards, normal maternal / fetal growth and development, and requirements of nurse midwifery practice. Able to independently seek out resources and solve complex problems. Able to communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership, and others. Able to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, perform health assessments, treatment, and follow-up. Able to use fine motor skills. Able to record activities, document assessments & interventions; prepare reports and presentations. Able to use computer and learn new software programs. Able to provide leadership in clinical area of expertise and in meeting organizational goals Able to withstand prolonged standing and walking with the ability to move or lift at least fifty pounds. Position Summary: The Nurse Midwife is responsible for performing continuous care and management of mothers and babies throughout the maternity cycle in the Nurse Midwife Service of a county medical facility. Responsibilities include various clinical administrative, educational and some research duties which require licensure as a Registered Nurse Practitioner, as well as registration with the State Department of Health as a Certified Nurse Midwife. Incumbents perform care and management of patients as long as progress meets the criteria of normal as defined in the standing orders, policies and procedures of the facility. Duties & Responsibilities: Provides professional care for delivery related services. Performs prenatal history, and physical examinations. Completes prenatal care of normal obstetric patients. Diagnose the onset of labor and performs the admission history and physical examinations of patients in labor. Provides consultation and proper hand off about the patient's therapeutic regimen to other members of the health care team.
