Pediatrics

Pediatrics is a 20-bed unit that provides compassionate care for common illnesses including urinary tract infections, respiratory problems, dehydration, ingestions, abdominal pain, appendicitis and gallbladder disease. In addition, we offer subspecialty care in pediatric neurology and seizure treatment, pediatric infectious disease and pediatric cardiology. We also provide a broad range of surgical specialties, including general surgery, ear, nose and throat (ENT), orthopedic and neurosurgery services. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4.

Job Summary

Under general supervision, adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics to provide care to all healthcare consumers. Applies critical thinking, evidence-based practices and competence to collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in healthcare consumer safety and quality outcomes. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder / Director, Watson Caring Science Institute."

Essential Functions:

  • Assess the needs of individuals, families and/or communities to identify potential health or safety problems (15%)

Registered Nurse - PICU (0.9FTE, Day/Night Rotator)

Up to $15,000 sign-on bonus and relocation assistance available for experienced pediatric ICU RNs that meet eligibility requirements. No pediatrics experience? No problem! If you have experience working with adult populations, we will provide training on working with pediatric patients and their families while leveraging the adult RN experience you already have. We will personalize an orientation just for you to set you up for success in the pediatric specialty you are hired for. The PICU has 40 beds with 8 additional expansion beds specifically dedicated to pediatric critical care for tracheotomy, CRRT, vents, organ transplant, and bone marrow transplant with research and ECMO services. There is a strong team of clinical educators and preceptors to ensure your successful training and support whether you are experienced or new to pediatrics. Typical training period can range from 10 weeks or more to effectively give your resources to attain competency and expertise in our PICU. As an integral member of the Health Care Team, the RN functions within the Scope of Practice as defined by the State, the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice, and adheres to Seattle Children's policies/procedures and guidelines of care. Job Description The PICU is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in Wilmington, DE.This is a 36-hr/wk nightshift position. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Nemours Children's Health, Delaware is a 24-bed unit in a Level 1 Trauma Center. Patients requiring care and surveillance in the PICU will have conditions and diagnoses which may include, but are not limited to, those producing: acute and reversible loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, compromised air exchange, cardiovascular dysfunction, hepatic failure, hemodynamic instability, renal dysfunction, central nervous system injury or dysfunction, acute trauma and organ failure requiring transplantation. Treatments or interventions performed in the PICU include measures utilizing advanced life support technology. These include, but are not limited to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, tracheal intubation, ECMO, pharmacologic support of circulation, mechanical ventilation, point of care monitoring, CRRT, thoracentesis, and hemodynamic, intracranial pressure, intravascular monitoring. Each patient room has electrocardiographic, pulse oximetry, respiratory, hemodynamic and intracranial pressure monitoring capability, as well as central EKG and respiratory monitoring. Portable monitoring during patient transport is provided. Special equipment includes radiant warmer beds, heating/cooling blanket systems, Mapleson manual ventilation system, end tidal CO2 monitors, ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring systems, intracranial pressure monitoring system, ventriculostomy systems, infusion pumps, blood warmer, continuous renal replacement systems, and peripheral nerve stimulators. Requirements Be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Experienced pediatric intensive care nurse of at least 2 years preferred. Current Delaware or Multistate Compact License Must be CPR certified by the American Heart Association. PALS and ACLS preferred.
