We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to serve as Clinic Nursing Supervisor for our Specialty clinics team. This position provides comprehensive clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers while directing and supervising nursing services in accordance with governmental and other regulatory standards. As a working supervisor and member of the clinic leadership team, this role combines direct patient care, electronic health record management, coordination of referrals and prior authorizations, and administrative functions with leadership responsibilities including staff supervision and education.


Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Management

 

  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and specialty-specific nursing visits
  • Perform post-operative wound checks, dressing changes, and wound care management as applicable
  • Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and treatments as ordered by physicians
  • Assist with procedures and examinations specific to the specialty area
  • Monitor vital signs and document patient responses to treatments
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition
  • Perform diagnostic tests including EKGs, spirometry, glucose monitoring, and CLIA-waived laboratory tests as appropriate to scope of practice
  • Conduct focused nursing visits for blood pressure monitoring, suture/staple removal, injection appointments, weight checks, and routine procedures
  • Oversee nursing care essential to the assessment, promotion, maintenance and restoration of patients' health and wellness
  • Oversee patient needs and suggest solutions to patient care problems

 

Electronic Health Record Management & Communication

 

  • Monitor and triage Epic InBasket messages in accordance with clinic protocols
  • Provide telephone triage for patient calls regarding urgent/emergent care and clinical questions
  • Document all patient interactions, assessments, and interventions accurately in Epic
  • Manage referrals and coordinate care between specialties
  • Respond to patient portal messages and telephone calls within established timeframes
  • Assist with prior authorization requests and coordinate with referral staff as needed
  • Process prescription refill requests and coordinate with providers as needed
  • Maintain awareness of communication issues between physicians, nurses and patients receiving care in the GSMG Clinic
  • Demonstrate ability to resolve communication concerns with patients, family members and physicians

 

Patient Education & Support

 

  • Provide comprehensive patient and family education on disease processes, medications, and treatment plans
  • Develop and deliver specialty-specific education materials and instruction
  • Counsel patients on post-operative care, medication compliance, and lifestyle modifications specific to the specialty
  • Support patients in understanding diagnostic procedures and test preparations
  • Facilitate patient understanding of treatment options and discharge instructions
  • Convey empathy and compassion to patients and family members

 

Leadership & Staff Management

 

  • Serve as member of the GSMG clinic leadership team
  • Facilitate development of department mission, goals, policies, procedures, and work standards
  • Establish, maintain, and evaluate clinical services, including:
    • Development and recording of patient information
    • Supporting medical staff communications with patients and other providers
    • Transmitting information accurately and in a timely manner
    • Performing centralized nursing services, including timely and cost-effective ordering and stocking of supplies
  • Select, orient, train, and evaluate clinical staff
  • Schedule clinical staff to support the range and needs of medical group medical staff providers
  • Evaluate the performance of clinical staff through monitoring of individual work performance and competency evaluation
  • Ensure the development and delivery of clinical education to staff
  • Mentor and provide guidance to medical assistants, nurses and other support staff
  • Demonstrate proper nursing skills through job performance

 

Team Collaboration & Clinical Support

  • Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to ensure coordinated care
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and care planning conferences
  • Communicate effectively with ancillary departments and external healthcare providers
  • Collaborate effectively with medical assistants, assist with rooming patients when clinic flow requires additional support
  • Assist with examination room preparation and ensure adequate inventory of medical supplies
  • Support front office operations including appointment scheduling and phone coverage as needed

 

Quality & Compliance

 

  • Adhere to all clinic policies, procedures, and safety protocols
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements including OSHA, HIPAA, and DNV standards
  • Maintain quality and efficiency standards as set by clinic practice manager and make recommendations for improvements
  • Participate in the Performance Improvement Process
  • Compile and analyze data, prepare and present statistical information on department performance, productivity, and activity, to administration as needed
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical outcome measurements
  • Ensure proper infection control practices and sterilization procedures
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff

 

Professional Development & Representation

 

  • Represent GSHCS in a professional manner while performing job duties for patients/families, physicians, visitors and/or other staff members as evidenced by appropriate language, dress, and conduct
  • Participating in activities which promote professional growth and self-development
  • Make customer relations a priority in all aspects of the work environment
  • Attend pertinent in-services, departmental and other meetings as requested by clinic manager
  • Adhere to GSHCS professional dress code

 

General Support:

 

  • Position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as patient care needs and clinic operations dictate
  • May be assigned to work across various medical specialties within the Good Shepherd Medical Group

 

Additionally:

  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

                Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.

Preferred: NA                                                                                                                                        

Licenses/ certifications/ registrations

Required: Current, unrestricted Oregon Registered Nurse license. Current BLS certification.

Preferred: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification

Specialty certification relevant to assigned clinic area (e.g., CPN for Pediatrics, CGRN for Gastroenterology).

 

Experience

Required: The ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

Preferred: Bilingual and/or English Spanish speaking. Minium 2 years of clinical nursing experience. Experience with Epic electronic health record system. Knowledge of evidence-based practice and quality improvement methodologies

Our nurses develop a special skill set and become credentialed to hang oncology medications. Our clinic hours are 7am-7pm. This position is responsible for managing the clinical activities within a geographic or specialty region. Works collaboratively with the Medical Directors, other clinic leadership and stakeholders to ensure timely patient access to care, operational efficiency, practice productivity, fiscal integrity, patient satisfaction and employee engagement. Essential Job Statements Manages multiple clinics across a geographic region or a specific service line. Clinic may provide complex services (procedures) and/or see high volumes of patients. In collaboration with local clinic leadership develops and implements staffing plans and assures appropriate coverage. Interviews, selects, mentors, and evaluates RNs and potentially other staff. Administers corrective disciplinary action when necessary for all RN staff and for other staff as needed. Evaluates the delivery of patient care services and implements improvements in collaboration with physicians, clinicians, and other members of the health care team. Ensures on-going evaluation and continuous improvement of services. In collaboration with other ambulatory leadership directs the acquisition and allocation of human, material, and financial resources to ensure utilization in an appropriate and cost-effective manner. May assists other managers and directors in the development and monitoring of the annual budget to ensure adequate control of financial resources. Provides direct patient care as needed and assures that clinical skills are maintained as appropriate. Identifies opportunities and develops and implements plans and services which enhance the VCUHS strategic plan. Participates in the strategic planning for ambulatory services in support of the VCUHS strategic initiatives. Monitors customer service satisfaction for clinic and takes timely action to address identified issues in collaboration with the leadership teams. Participates in interdepartmental and VCUHS committees to ensure consistent standards of practice and communication. Ensures compliance with standards set forth by external licensing, accrediting, and regulatory agencies Promotes an environment that promotes educational growth opportunities for nursing staff. (i.e. PAP, specialty certification, support towards advanced degree) Encourage, facilitate Evidence Based Practice Projects, and disseminate findings. In collaboration with the clinic leadership coordinates to ensure educational requirements and clinical competencies are maintained for clinical staff. May serve as an interim operational leader in the absence of local operational leadership Performs other related duties as assigned Management of facility, local vendor contracts, space management in conjunction with ambulatory operational managers Management of a building or multiple smaller locations to include facility management, local vendor contracts, space management, staffing plans, supply mgmt. and budgetary responsibilities and clinical quality and outcomes in assigned areas. Coordination with the MCVP medical school departments on addition of service lines or new providers at a given location Partnership with access strategy for given locations to promote access to care Management of all regulatory and compliance policies for a given location May include reconciliation of charges, denial management and other revenue cycle initiative participation Participation in engagement and efficiency initiatives within their assigned locations Patient Population Not applicable to this position. Employment Qualifications Required Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program required. Preferred Education: Master’s degree preferred Licensure/Certification Required: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible compact state Licensure/Certification Preferred: Certification in specialty area Minimum Qualifications Years and Type of Required Experience Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience at least two as an RN. Clinical experience can include CMA, LPN, athletic trainer or other clinical technical roles in health healthcare. 2 years clinical supervisor or other clinical leadership experience Management experience in an Ambulatory Environment preferred.
