The Registered Nurse is a competent nurse that will deliver nursing care to patients of varying age groups by utilizing the nursing process and nursing practice standards. The Registered Nurse demonstrates competency caring for complex patients and participates on the care team to improve the quality of care in the clinical area. The Registered Nurse uses:
*Nursing Practice Competencies to intervene to achieve safe, optimal patient and family centered care health outcomes;
*Leadership Competencies to coordinate patient care and communicate with the care team;

Jewish Hospital:

UofL Health – Jewish Hospital opened in 1905 with a mission to provide all patients with the highest quality care and a strong emphasis on research and education. Located in the heart of the downtown medical campus, Jewish Hospital is a 462-bed, internationally renowned, comprehensive, quaternary medical center that is developing leading-edge advancements in a vast number of specialties and services including heart care, neurosciences, orthopedics and surgical care.
 

UofL Health – Jewish Hospital is ranked as “High Performing” by U.S. News & World Report in four specialty conditions and procedures: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Heart Bypass Surgery, Heart Failure, & Pacemaker Implantation. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital:

UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital is a 298-bed, full-service hospital which has served generations of patients in south Louisville. Originally founded by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in 1874, the hospital offers a full range of vascular, orthopedic, cardiac, neurological, surgical, rehabilitative and 24/7 emergency services including 24/7 STEMI service. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital is home to UofL Health – Weight Loss Care, the region’s only weight-loss management program utilizing the Lap-Band® System. In addition, the hospital provides the Orbera® gastric balloon procedure. The hospital has been recognized as one of the first health care facilities in the nation to receive a Blue Distinction® Center for bariatric surgery.

Medical Center East:

UofL Health – Medical Center East is an ambulatory surgery center that features 40 private patient suites. Each suite is designed to provide the utmost patient comfort and privacy. From registration to discharge, Medical Center East’s highly experienced staff ensures that patients receive a level of standard-setting care that has earned the center the reputation as one of Louisville’s most desired facilities for outpatient procedures. Patients having outpatient procedures at Medical Center East can remain up to 23 hours from the time of admission. With that, the facility accommodates a full array of surgical procedures including those in the areas of: ENT, General Surgery, Gastroenterology, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, & Urology.

Shelbyville Hospital:

Our outpatient surgical suites are designed to provide patient comfort and privacy. From registration to discharge, the experienced staff at Shelbyville Hospital will ensure patients receive outstanding care. The Shelbyville Hospital surgical services staff has consistently received patient satisfaction scores well above national averages. Surgical procedures offered at Shelbyville Hospital include ENT, General Surgery, Gastroenterology, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Pulmonology, Urology, & Vascular Surgery.

South Hospital:

With approximately 170,000 square feet, UofL Health – South Hospital brings modern and spacious inpatient rooms, enhanced emergency capabilities, increased surgical and outpatient services, new intensive care services, more primary care and specialty providers and more job and volunteer opportunities. Now, family and friends needing inpatient care can now stay in their own community. Because closer truly is best. South Hospital features a Cardiac catheterization lab with 24/7 STEMI network, Vascular lab, and six operating rooms.

UofL Hospital:

The Surgical Services Department at UofL Hospital is comprised of several departments in multiple locations. The department provides services to adult patients in the areas of inpatient and outpatient surgery, endoscopy, pain management, interventional nephrology, and infusion services. Surgical specialties include general surgery, colorectal, plastics, urology, vascular and endovascular therapeutics, thoracic, surgical oncology, trauma, OB-GYN, gynecologic oncology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, ENT, oral maxillofacial, hand surgery and podiatry. Endoscopy specialties include gastroenterology, general surgery, colorectal surgery and pulmonology. 

UofL Hospital has 22 operating rooms. Fourteen of these rooms are main operating rooms located within UofL Hospital with two featuring the da Vinci® Robot and integrated to meet the needs of these robotic surgery procedures. The other four operating rooms are located at the UofL Physicians – Outpatient Surgery Center. Over 12,000 procedures are completed in our operating rooms annually.

Additional Job Description:

Education:

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program is (required)

• All new-hire Associate Degree Registered Nurses (new graduate and experienced) are required to start an approved BSN program within one (1) year of hire and complete an approved BSN program within three (3) years of hire (required at UofL Hospital only).

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (preferred)

Experience:

• All new RN graduates will participate in the Nurse Residency program and must successfully complete all activities (required)

• Two years of hospital patient care experience (preferred)

Licensure:

• Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required)

Certification:

• Basic Life Saving (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (may be required for specific clinical areas)
