Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions

Perform primary health care for patients by utilizing the processes of assessment and diagnosis of health status.

  • Obtain patient's medical and history information, data collection is prioritized according to immediate condition or needs.
  • Perform physical exam and determine patient's mental status.
  • Develop and implement treatment, follow-up and evaluation plans for patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other disciplines as appropriate and provides regular and consistent feedback.
  • Use appropriate assessment techniques & diagnostic information.  Performs tests relevant to patient condition and record findings.
  • Order appropriate ancillary tests.
  • Derive diagnosis from the assessment data and diagnostic information as data becomes available.

  • Generate referrals to appropriate services as needed to further diagnose and/or progress of care.

Evaluate patient care to determine response to care/interventions for optimal patient outcome.

  • Evaluate the patient's capabilities and/or limitations related to nursing and medical interventions.
  • Recognize and address patient and family capabilities and limitations (physical and mental).
  • Return patient telephone calls.
  • Monitor outcomes and documents patient response to interventions.
  • Seek out new treatment methods necessary to ensure patient progress.

Provide patient and family teaching and education specific to the patient's health care.

  • Proper use of medication and health/illness prevention to ensure adequate knowledge/awareness.
  • Interview and advise specific to patient needs.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to family regarding need for patient information on a timely basis.
  • Work collaboratively with physicians and other team members to provide appropriate patient education geared to the patient's needs and family's ability to provide care.

  • Recommend references and resources such as printed materials, online, community and other information sources to fulfill the family's need for education.

Education

  • Graduate of Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.
  • Satisfactory completion of annual mandatory education requirements.


Experience

  • Minimum 1 – 3 years of clinical experience preferred.

License/Certifications

  • Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) license, valid compact multi-state license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.

Our NNPs work collaboratively with flight nurses to provide state-of-the-art neonatal care, utilizing fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and critical care ground ambulances throughout Nebraska and surrounding states. As a stand-alone neonatal team, we often operate in multiple states within a single shift. Education Qualifications Education as required by Department of Health and Human Services-Regulation and Licensure Credentialing Division as represented by APRN licensure in the State of Nebraska Required Work Experience Minimum 3 years’ experience in Critical Care Required and Experience can be satisfied as a Critical Care RN, Critical Care APRN, or combination of both Required and Previous Advanced Practice Provider experience in pediatrics Preferred Licenses and Certifications Current and valid unrestricted Nebraska state licensure (e.g., APRN, PA, RN) Required and BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association Required and PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 180 Days Required and NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation within 180 Days Required and NNP-BC - Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Board Certified Required or CPNP-AC - Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care Upon Hire Required and DEA License within 30 Days Required Satisfy all relevant criteria and qualifications outlined in the Medical Staff Policy on Allied Health Professional, required to be credentialed. Required and Must have valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle driving record Required and Must be able to work in an environment which includes the use of ambulance, helicopter, and airplane patient transport vehicles that results in exposure to non-conventional motions, noise, vibration, fumes and extreme heat/cold. Required and Due to the aircraft the Organization utilizes for both rotary and fixed wing, all Transport applicants must be 225 lbs or under at time of hire. Upon Hire Required. About The Team The Critical Care Transport team at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center is available 24 hours a day to provide state-of-the-art care and transportation to pediatric patients ranging from extreme prematurity through adolescence. We are the only team in Nebraska specializing in the stabilization and care of neonatal and pediatric patients. Transportation is available by a dedicated ambulance, helicopter, or fixed-wing plane, allowing us to provide extended coverage to patients throughout the region to any higher level of care.
