A Brief Overview

Responsible for assisting the physician in caring for the patient and family in accordance with organization protocols, policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

Assists in the assessment of the health status of individuals including the delivery of patient care to patients and families under the direction of RN or LPN.
Performs treatments, procedures, diagnostic testing and medication/immunization administration in a compassionate manner under the direction of a licensed practitioner.
Collects data regarding patient’s vital signs and growth and development when interviewing patients/families in the office.
Coordinates the scheduling of diagnostic tests and procedures with the patient/family, physicians/hospitals and the insurance companies as directed by the provider.
Assists the physician or nurse practitioner in patient teaching as directed or according to clinic protocol.
Demonstrates knowledge and delivers suitable care tailored to the corresponding stage of the life cycle.
Completes all required patient care documentation and reporting in accurate and timely manner within the electronic medical record.
Responds appropriately in crisis situations or life threatening emergencies.
Takes direction from the physician or nurse practitioner in the delivery on patient care.
Assists with clerical duties as directed by the office manager.
Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications

Completion of a Medical Assistant Program or current and valid national certification as a Medical Assistant (NCMA) Required

May assist the resident in transferring, re-positioning, and walking using correct and appropriate transfer techniques and equipment and provides range of motion and passive exercises. Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, while creating a positive dining experience for the resident. May assist residents with meals and snacks; provide water and supplements as appropriate. Administers prescribed medications as delegated by a licensed nurse and within their scope of practice as defined by state regulations. Documents the outcomes related to resident care, medication administration, behavior, activity, and dietary. Communicates changing condition, medication follow-up and care related concerns/responses to the charge nurse. Collects non-invasive body fluid specimens and gathers vital signs. Provides housekeeping and laundry services to assist residents with keeping living areas clean and operational. Provides assistance and documentation with wellness and recreational programs and encourages residents to participate. Minimum age of 18 preferred. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred. Satisfactorily completes yearly department specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits for each year. A minimum of 12 hours continuing education are required annually based on state requirements. Maintains all department specific required certifications.
