As a Registered Nurse, you are responsible for a group of patients for a designated time frame implementing the Nursing Process. You work closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians in order to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes. Samaritan Healthcare is designated as a Trauma Level III by the Washington State Department of Health (WSDH). This position reports to the Charge Nurse, Department Director, and other designated supervisory staff on duty.  

This is a per diem, hospital based, hourly position working variable shifts and days of the week.

 

EXTRA INCENTIVE:

Up to $15,000 sign on bonus, subject to two-year Hospital Sign on Advance Agreement. (External candidates only.)

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Performs assessment/data collection, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status.
  2. Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner by utilization of/adherence to pre-determined procedures, policies and care plans.
  3. Identifies patient/significant other learning needs, readiness for learning, and implements patient teaching as defined by policy and care plans.
  4. Documents in patient’s chart, via electronic medical records and/or paper processes, per policy and in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
  5. Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient/significant other and family rights, as identified by Samaritan Healthcare regardless of race, age, religion, color, creed, sex, national origin, or any other classification protected by law; and regardless of ability to pay.
  6. Demonstrates appropriate delegation of patient care activities. Functions effectively to supervise assigned coworkers.
  7. Demonstrates effective organization and priority setting utilizing sound critical thinking.

  9. May be required to function as a Charge Nurse to include:  Delegation of patient assignment/re-assignment; assists/informs with admits, discharges, and transfers; coordinates staff coverage for breaks; helps staff problem-solve; serves as a lead for unit. 
  10. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  11. Functions with awareness of/adherence to safety requirements. This includes, but is not limited to:  security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  12. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures as well as labor agreements.
  13. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization’s values.
  14. Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
  15. Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required, by management be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.

 

Qualifications for this position include (not limited to)

  1. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  2. Current Washington State RN Licensure.
  3. Experience as an acute care registered nurse preferred. Minimum one year of RN experience preferred for specialty nursing departments.
  4. Ability to perform the primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of all assigned patients.
  5. HCP (Healthcare Provider) Level of BLS (Basic Life Support) within 30 days of hire – AHA or equivalent.    

 

 Department RN Preferred Qualifications & Competencies:

Medical/Surgical Unit

  1. PEARS (AHA Pediatric Advanced Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization) certification to be obtained within 12 months of hire and renewed every 2 years.
  2. TOTAL JOINT PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • Follow the pathway for total joint replacement dependent on area of specialty

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
  2. Manual dexterity, light physical effort, ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. (supplies and equipment). Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 8 to 12 hours per shift and adroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines.
  3. Physical strength to perform CPR (bed/floor), lift and push/pull 60 to 300 pounds (with assistance) as often as 20 times per 8 to 12 hours and perform constant walking, twisting, turning, and stretching maneuvers in patient care and use of equipment.
  4. Keen mental faculties to perform assessment and decision-making skills in the management of acutely ill patients.
  5. Good reading eyesight. Is able to see clearly 20 feet or more, to judge distance and space relationships, and to see peripherally. Visual acuity to observe patient assessment data and use manual/automated documentation tools.
  6. Emotional stability: Conducive to dealing with a high stress level for 8 to 12 hours at a time associated with caring for acute patients/families, fast-paced physical activity, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and their families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers.
  7. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.

Samaritan is designated as a Trauma Level III by the Washington State Department of Health (WSDH). This position reports to the Charge Nurse, Department Director, and other designated supervisory staff on duty. This is a part-time, position working 24 hours per week; Nights with rotating weekends and holidays, 7a-7:30p. EXTRA INCENTIVE: Up to $7,500 sign on bonus, subject to two-year Hospital Sign on Advance Agreement. Qualifications for this position include (not limited to) : Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Current Washington State RN Licensure. Experience as an acute care registered nurse preferred. Minimum one year of RN experience preferred for specialty nursing departments. Ability to perform the primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of all assigned patients. HCP (Healthcare Provider) Level of BLS (Basic Life Support) within 30 days of hire – AHA or equivalent. Department RN Preferred Qualifications & Competencies: Resource RN Need to obtain all of the certifications applicable to the nursing units to which they have been trained. AWHONN’s Advanced Fetal Monitoring course is only required if labor trained and caring for pregnant patients. NRP (AAP Neonatal Resuscitation Program) is only required if labor trained and caring for pregnant patients. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling. Manual dexterity, light physical effort, ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. (supplies and equipment). Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 8 to 12 hours per shift and adroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines. Physical strength to perform CPR (bed/floor), lift and push/pull 60 to 300 pounds (with assistance) as often as 20 times per 8 to 12 hours and perform constant walking, twisting, turning, and stretching maneuvers in patient care and use of equipment. Keen mental faculties to perform assessment and decision-making skills in the management of acutely ill patients. Good reading eyesight. Is able to see clearly 20 feet or more, to judge distance and space relationships, and to see peripherally. Visual acuity to observe patient assessment data and use manual/automated documentation tools. Emotional stability: Conducive to dealing with a high stress level for 8 to 12 hours at a time associated with caring for acute patients/families, fast-paced physical activity, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and their families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public. The Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) functions within the nursing scope of practice under the direction and supervision of the Provider (physician, PA or ARNP) and is responsible for assisting in providing care and implementing delegated activities of care. Interviews patient, documents chief complaint, measures vital signs and accurately records information in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) as appropriate. Establishes priorities in organizing daily activities, effectively manages patient flow and anticipates special equipment, solutions and miscellaneous supplies needed for various procedures. Triages patients to the level of care necessary to provide quality patient care with the best possible results based on triage protocols and consultation with Providers. Assist/Initiate with BLS measures. Instructs patient in collection of samples and tests. Consistently demonstrates correct handling of procedure specimens per Provider orders, including appropriate identification, labeling, dating and disposition of the specimen. Communicates test results and instructions to patients per practice protocol. Acts as a content expert and clinical resource by providing staff and patient education. Educates patient and care givers about diagnostic procedures, medications, chronic disease management and treatment instructions (e. diabetes, AIDS, immunizations). Carries out orders as approved by the supervising Providers. Assists Provider by preparing the patients and equipment for examinations and procedures. Assists the Provider during procedures and treatments. Assesses surgical and acute wounds to assist the Provider with treatment. Understands the proper application of splints, slings, cast boots, braces, etc. Measures for knee braces and other appliances. Starts and monitors IV as directed. Ensures proper inventorying and ordering of medical supplies and maintenance of emergency equipment. Assists with medication management for patients. Accurately and promptly requests prescription authorizations and orders refills on medications as authorized by Provider and/or practice policy. Understands surgical inpatient procedures and care. This position may be primarily assigned to specific medical specialty department but may be asked to work in other departments including Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Family Medicine, OB/Women’s Health, Urgent Care, Podiatry, and other departments as requested. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Education: Graduate of an accredited registered nurse program. BSN preferred. License: Current Washington state Registered Nurse license. Experience : Experience working in a clinic setting providing support to providers in a variety of medical specialties preferred. Skills/Competencies: Bilingual English/Spanish desired.
