
Registered Nurse - IR ( FT, 8hr day shift)- Radiology cardiac stress test/pacemaker
Job Description
This is a 8 hour Monday-Friday 7:00-15:30 position. These jobs are mainly at the Parnassus and UCIC campuses for a diagnostic radiology nurse (MRI and CT ) but will also float.
Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.
The Radiology Cardiac Stress Test RN, MRI Pacemaker RN, and CT Coronary RN are integral members of the UCSF Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging care team. They independently perform nursing assessments and provide patient-centered care within their scope of practice while collaborating with APPs, physicians, technologists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Responsibilities include supporting cardiovascular and radiology procedures; providing cardiopulmonary monitoring and administration of vasoactive medications as appropriate; monitoring patients with pacemakers and other CIEDs during MRI examinations; coordinating safe patient handoffs and continuity of care; and providing patient and family education, discharge assessment, and teaching. RNs also help develop and implement processes that promote safe, efficient patient flow across the medical center while addressing patients' psychosocial, cultural, privacy, and confidentiality needs.

Provide Holistic patient care within a broad range of health care needs in radiology cardiac stress testing and MRI and CT areas, to include, but not limited to: chemical and exercise stress testing in the echo/vascular lab as well as tilt table evaluations, and cardiopulmonary monitoring of patients with cardiac pacemakers who are undergoing MRI and CT scans.

- Independently performs cardiovascular stress tests and tilt table evaluations under direct supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner per department policy and procedure.
- The Registered Nurse establishes an in-depth database by assessing the psychosocial and physical status of patient's presenting for these tests.
- Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge and skill of the pharmacological agents used during diagnostic procedures, and demonstrates competence in the treatment of adverse side effects of said pharmacological agents.
- Performing an in-depth cardiovascular and sedation assessment in accordance with current UCSF policies. Assures that informed consent has been obtained with the patient and that all questions and concerns have been answered with the patient and family’s satisfaction.
- Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of cardiac pacemaker functionality and demonstrates ability to report and/or troubleshoot pacemaker malfunction with appropriate party.
- Implements safe, competent and efficient care with patients and families within policies, procedures and standards across a variety of populations and complexity of situations.
- Foresees potential problems and adapts priorities and plans independently and without outside direction.
- Knowledgeable of cardiac and anti-arrhythmic agents, their dosing, side effects, and interactions. Able to identify and manage untoward responses.
- Demonstrates a basic understanding of safety, techniques and equipment utilized during procedures.
- Demonstrates competency in the interpretation of telemetry and 12-lead rhythm strip.
- Assist with clinic-based procedures as needed; such as IV insertions and administration of contrast; enhancement agents or agitated saline.
- Participate in Radiology and Biomedical Imaging service line research data collection and evaluation.
- Maintain survey readiness for procedure-based nursing care including maintenance of environment of care, standing orders, policies and unit specific protocols.
- Screening assessment and preparation of patients who will undergo cardiac stress testing
- Assisting with monitoring and management of patient care during cardiac stress testing
- Screening assessment and preparation of patients with cardiac implanted devices who will undergo MRI scanning.
- Assisting with monitoring and management of patient with cardiac implanted devices during MRI scanning.
- Works with the team to ensure that appropriate patients are transported to the department for procedures; communicates with the patients’ nurse where necessary to make a determination regarding transportation and monitoring while in the testing area.
- Provides report to the receiving nurse as appropriate following procedures.
- Responds to all emergency events, requests for urgent assistance and/or nursing assessment within the suite.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Recent five (5) years of experience as a clinical nurse in hospital setting .
- Recent two (2) years of expereince in ICU ER/ED, CCU, Heart Tranplant / post heart transplant unit
- Recent two (2) years of experience in Cardiology or Radiology performing cardiac stress testing
- Experience in MRI pacemaker interrogation, EP Lab, Cath lab
- This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
- Experience with cardiac pacemaker monitoring
- BSN
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
- Current healthcare provider CPR (BLS) and ACLS
