Sunbelt Staffing is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide dedicated 1:1 nursing care for a medically fragile student in a school-based setting in DeKalb, Illinois. This is a part-time opportunity supporting a young student throughout the school day.

Position Details

Start Date: October 7, 2026
End Date: May 20, 2027
Hours: 20 hours per week
Schedule: MondayFriday, approximately 8:15/8:30 AM12:00/12:15 PM
Position: 1:1 School Nurse
Student: 3-year-old student
Setting: School-based
Student Needs: Medically fragile student requiring tracheostomy care and tube feeding
Transportation: Nurse will be required to ride the bus with the student
Ventilator: Student uses a ventilator at night but will not require ventilator support during the school day

Responsibilities

Provide dedicated 1:1 nursing care throughout the school day
Monitor the student's medical status and respond to healthcare needs
Provide tracheostomy care and tube feedings as required
Follow the student's individualized healthcare plan and physician orders
Ride the school bus with the student as needed
Maintain accurate nursing documentation
Collaborate with school staff and the student's healthcare team to support a safe and successful school experience

Qualifications

Active Illinois RN license required
Pediatric or school nursing experience preferred
Experience with tracheostomy care and tube feeding preferred
Strong communication and clinical skills
Ability to provide compassionate, attentive 1:1 care

Administer professional services such as: catheterization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy, and drainage bags, care of the dead/dying, etc., as required. Participate in the orientation of new customers/family members to the facility. Arrange for diagnostic and therapeutic services, as ordered by the physician. Notify the customer’s attending physician and family when there is a change in the customer’s conditions. Obtain sputum, urine and other lab tests as ordered. Take and record TPR’s, blood pressures, accuchecks, etc., as necessary. Contact the customer’s physician for: Nursing assessment of change of condition. Medication orders or charges. To inform of incidents. To report abnormal results of Lab and X-ray. Anything else pertinent to the customers’ care and well-being. Ensure the nurses’ notes and monthly summaries reflect the care plan and is being followed. Attend staff meetings, etc., as directed. Perform other related duties as assigned.
