Medical Assistant Team Lead

 

Position Summary

Seeking an experienced Medical Assistant Team Lead to oversee a large clinical support team in a high-volume residency clinic. This leadership role focuses on staff supervision, operations, coaching, quality oversight, and provider support rather than direct patient care.

 

  • Location: 1040 Wishard Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46202
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-4:30 PM (1-hour lunch)
  • Weekends: No
  • Holidays: No
  • Work Setting: Onsite

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead approximately 30 Medical Assistants, LPNs, and RNs.
  • Manage daily staffing schedules, assignments, and workflow coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Partner closely with providers to support efficient patient care.
  • Train, coach, mentor, and develop clinical staff.
  • Monitor performance and provide ongoing feedback and accountability.
  • Review and support accurate provider orders and clinical documentation.
  • Address operational challenges in a fast-paced clinic environment.

 

Team Environment

  • Oversight of approximately: 
    • 16 Full-Time Medical Assistants
    • 9 PRN Medical Assistants
    •  Team also consists of 10 LPNs/RNs in collaboration 
  • Support and develop many newly graduated Medical Assistants.
  • Work within a diverse team where approximately 70% of staff are bilingual.
  • Strong emphasis on coaching, education, and employee development.

 

Clinic Environment

  • Residency clinic setting with resident and early-career providers.
  • High-volume practice serving approximately 240 patients per day.
  • Staff play a critical role in reviewing and verifying provider orders.
  • Large Spanish-speaking patient population.
  • Collaborative team of bilingual providers and staff.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Experience in ambulatory, primary care, or outpatient clinic settings required
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification required
  • 2 years' experience as an MA II or III required.
  • Medical Assistant leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience managing employee performance and accountability preferred 
  • Strong coaching, mentoring, and training skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality, compliance, and patient safety.
  • Ability to effectively support diverse and bilingual teams.

Provides functional guidance to support staff and performs the duties of a medical assistant in accordance with organization standards. Provides coordination of administrative services to ensure smooth operation. May coordinate scheduling, training, and inventory duties. May be responsible for inpatient and outpatient consult activities within assigned location. May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires graduation from a Medical Assistant program and/or certification from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Healthcareer Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).
  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required.
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • 2 years' experience as an MA II or III at IUH is required.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required.
  • Requires ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills.
