Educator-Medical Assistant

Overview

IU Health is seeking a passionate and engaging Medical Assistant Educator to support the development, onboarding, and ongoing education of Medical Assistants throughout the West Region. This role plays a critical part in ensuring clinical excellence by delivering training, supporting learners, coordinating student placements, and partnering with operational leaders to promote professional growth and workforce development.

This position offers the opportunity to work alongside an established education team while building meaningful relationships with Medical Assistants, students, clinical leaders, and educational partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage external Medical Assistant student placements from onboarding through program completion.
  • Facilitate classroom, virtual, and onsite educational programs.
  • Support orientation, onboarding, competency validation, and continuing education initiatives.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource for Medical Assistants and operational leaders.
  • Partner with clinics throughout the West Region to identify training and development needs.
  • Maintain accurate records related to student placements, training completion, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with education team members, regional leaders, and community educational institutions.
  • Participate in organizational projects, councils, and committees that support workforce development.
  • Travel to regional clinic locations as needed and occasionally to Indianapolis for meetings and educational initiatives.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid work arrangement with a strong onsite presence throughout the region.

    Plans, develops, facilitates, implements, and evaluates education in the Medical Assistant Program. Assists in the development and implementation of student performance standards, student admissions and selection process, and program accreditation activities. Ensures that education in the program is properly coordinated, and that all students receive adequate instruction, simulation skill practices, and experiences. Assists in developing promotional materials for internal and/or external publicity.
  • Associate's Degree is required. Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Requires 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires current certification in medical assistant program: (American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), National Health Center Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).

DEFINITION: Utilizing the nurse process, the health center nurse is accountable for delivery of patient care in the health center during office hours.
