School Registered Nurse (RN) in Jersey City, NJ

Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting a remarkable young student as a school nurse specializing in pediatric care. This onsite position is in a school setting near Jersey City, NJ, where your expertise will directly impact a 3-year-old student with Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy (INAD). The student requires attentive nursing support throughout the school day, with responsibilities including NG-tube care, monitoring, and daily assistance.

Your schedule would run from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, approximately 35 hours per week, from January 4, 2026, to June 24, 2027. This vital role involves close coordination with teachers and school staff to ensure the safety and well-being of the student, who is non-ambulatory, non-verbal, and weighs around 24 lbs. Additional duties include supporting transportation (bussing), lifting, and operating a stander and gait trainer.

Key Qualifications:

• Active RN license, with relevant credentials
• Demonstrated pediatric nursing experience (required)
• Prior experience in a school-based setting preferred
• Competence with NG-tube (not G-tube) management
• Comfortable lifting and assisting non-ambulatory students
• Ability to work onsite, full-time during school hours
• Strong communication skills and team approach

Responsibilities:

• Provide daily health monitoring and direct care for a medically fragile student
• Administer NG-tube feedings and medication per medical plan
• Facilitate safe transport to/from school via bus, ensuring proper equipment use
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to foster a safe, inclusive environment
• Maintain accurate records of interventions and care plans
