School Registered Nurse (RN) in Edison, NJ

$32.70 - $52.70 / hour

Step into a meaningful school-based role focused on providing dedicated care for a young student with complex medical needs. This contract opportunity ensures your skills as a Registered Nurse make a lasting difference while working closely in an educational setting. The assignment takes place onsite, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm, covering the school year from January 2026 through June 2027.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Current RN licensure in the state of New Jersey
  • Proven experience in pediatric settings, especially with medically complex children
  • Background in school nursing preferred
  • Competency in managing NG-tubes (not G-tubes)
  • Ability to lift and safely transport a child weighing approximately 24 lbs
  • Comfort with providing care for non-ambulatory, non-verbal students
  • Capability to assist with stander and gait-trainer equipment
  • Willingness to provide nursing support during bussing as required
  • Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient-centered approach

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering daily nursing interventions and health monitoring for a 3-year-old student diagnosed with Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy
  • Safely administering NG-tube feedings and related procedures
  • Supporting mobility and positioning needs, including use of specialized equipment
  • Providing attentive care and close supervision throughout the school day and during transport
  • Documenting all care provided and maintaining clear communication with school team and family
  • Responding promptly and effectively to medical emergencies or changes in the student’s health status
