A Brief Overview

This is for a full-time, rotating shifts position with the Operating Room at the Philadelphia Campus. 36 weekly hours and 40 weekly hours are available.

  • Required: At least one (1) year RN experience.
  • Required: Completion of a Periop 101 program
  • Required: At least one (1) year OR Circulating experience
  • Preferred: At least one (1) year OR Scrub experience
  • Preferred: Prior experience in pediatrics or area of specialty


The Clinical Nurse practices at the level of an advanced beginner to expert practitioner of professional nursing in accordance with, and guided by the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model. The nurse at this level demonstrates competence in caring for patients and families and progresses to caring for those with the most complex problems/highest acuity in the designated clinical area. Provides age/developmentally appropriate care. Care is delivered through RN leadership for patient care within the framework of family-centered care. The Clinical Nurse adheres to the organizational and nursing department mission, vision, and values. Clinical Nurses practice in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics; the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice; practice standards of applicable specialty nursing organizations; and CHOP developed standards of nursing practice. The professional nurse practices within the defined scope of practice designated by the Nurse Practice Acts of Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey, depending on the assigned work site.

What you will do

  • Clinical Practice
  • Follows the nursing process to deliver safe, compassionate, and culturally effective care.
  • Gathers and recognizes/synthesizes assessment data to determine the patient/family plan of care, pertinent data to be shared with care team, and tasks to be delegated.
  • Recognizes and/or seeks resources to recognize clinical changes that are indicative of patient deterioration; utilizes the CAT team when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with the patient, family and multidisciplinary team to coordinate all facets of patient care.
  • Develops, implements and/or revises the patient’s plan of care on admission and during the course of the hospitalization. Plans of care are outcomes focused and include goals as well as required interventions. Plans are developed in partnership with the patient, family, and the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Care is coordinated across the continuum – understands and utilizes case management resources.
  • Consistently follows evidence based practice bundles and nursing standards/procedures to provide nursing care that eliminates preventable events of patient harm and promotes excellent patient outcomes.
  • Recognizes and addresses situations which present ethical dilemmas and/or moral distress. Takes steps to actively address the situation. Seeks resources as needed to resolve the situation.

  • Documents the evaluation of nursing interventions and outcomes of nursing care utilizing hospital standards, policies and procedures.

  • Utilizes and exemplifies safety behaviors for error prevention. Identifies potential safety concerns and communicates with unit leadership as appropriate. Enters safety nets when applicable, including good catch/near miss situations.

Job Description The PICU is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in Wilmington, DE. This is a 36hrs/wk, rotating shift position. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Nemours Children's Health, Delaware is a 24-bed unit in a Level 1 Trauma Center. Patients requiring care and surveillance in the PICU will have conditions and diagnoses which may include, but are not limited to, those producing: acute and reversible loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, compromised air exchange, cardiovascular dysfunction, hepatic failure, hemodynamic instability, renal dysfunction, central nervous system injury or dysfunction, acute trauma and organ failure requiring transplantation. Treatments or interventions performed in the PICU include measures utilizing advanced life support technology. These include, but are not limited to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, tracheal intubation, ECMO, pharmacologic support of circulation, mechanical ventilation, point of care monitoring, CRRT, thoracentesis, and hemodynamic, intracranial pressure, intravascular monitoring. Each patient room has electrocardiographic, pulse oximetry, respiratory, hemodynamic and intracranial pressure monitoring capability, as well as central EKG and respiratory monitoring. Portable monitoring during patient transport is provided. Special equipment includes radiant warmer beds, heating/cooling blanket systems, Mapleson manual ventilation system, end tidal CO2 monitors, ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring systems, intracranial pressure monitoring system, ventriculostomy systems, infusion pumps, blood warmer, continuous renal replacement systems, and peripheral nerve stimulators. This part time position is scheduled for 20 hours per week and includes a weekend rotation every three weeks. Holiday requirements include one summer holiday, one winter holiday eve, and one winter holiday day annually. This position requires flexibility to provide coverage at the King of Prussia and/or Bucks County Urgent Care locations based on clinical and operational needs. What you will do Nursing Practice Follows Nursing Process to deliver safe care: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Synthesizes patient assessment data and recognizes complex situations prior to communicating with care team. Collaborates with family, team members, and other caregivers to initiate/update plan of care, patient/family education, and discharge needs. Manages care of complex patients utilizing proper prioritization and delegation to appropriate staff. Identifies expected outcomes, revises plan of care when unexpected outcomes arise, and begins to use full range of communication as a means of conveying plan. Documents ongoing evaluation and effectiveness of patient care utilizing current hospital standards, policies, and procedures. Provides care that meets professional standards of practice and meets regulatory requirements. Epic registration for arriving patients to support coverage on intake as assigned. Resource Management Participates in promoting quality, efficient, and cost-effective care. Education Qualifications Technical Diploma Nursing - Required Bachelor's Degree Nursing - Preferred Experience Qualifications At least one (1) year RN experience - Required Pediatric experience - Preferred Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English. Computer Competency Basic use of a computer (mouse, keyboard, printer, USB ports). Basic use of Microsoft Office (Word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and Skype). Web browsing, intranet search, document access. Use of shared network file space. Basic use of patient facing technology. (e.g. IV pumps, point of care devices, CR monitors). Navigation and use of clinical communication systems. Information Literacy Determines the nature and extent of clinical information needed and uses the appropriate technology to access it. Accesses needed information effectively and efficiently. Evaluates information and its sources critically and appropriately incorporates it into clinical practice. Evaluates outcomes of the use of information. Information Management Literacy Navigation of the electronic health record system. Ability to locate and review specific patient data in various clinical information systems. Effectively uses clinical decision support tools. Ability to collect clinical data using quality improvement tools. Membership in a professional nursing organization (Preferred proficiency) Licenses and Certifications Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or Registered Nurse (New Jersey) - New Jersey State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex.
