Department Overview The Department of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) at Children's Minnesota is one of the largest departments. We are dedicated to managing the care of hospitalized infants, children, and teenagers, providing 24/7/365 on-site service at both the Minneapolis and St. Paul hospital campuses. Position Summary As a Pediatric Hospital Medicine APP Hospitalist, you will play a crucial role in managing the care of hospitalized patients from admission to discharge. You will work independently and in collaboration with physician hospitalists to provide comprehensive assessments and create medical plans of care. You will gain diverse clinical experiences from covering patients in Acute Care units, the Infant Care Center, and serving as the primary team for a wide array of specialty patients such as endocrinology, eating disorders, gastroenterology, pulmonology, nephrology, infectious disease, cardiology, general surgery, urology, ENT, and psychiatry. Your responsibilities will include: Collect and synthesize data from historical information, diagnostic tests, therapeutic interventions, and physical examinations. Determine diagnoses and appropriate interventions consistent with your scope of practice, experience, board certification, and organizational professional staff policy. Collaborate closely with hospital sub-specialists, surgical staff, nursing staff, and social workers to create comprehensive treatment plans for patients and their families during their hospital stay. The pre/post op staff at Children’s – Minnetonka rotates working in three areas: PlayWait (admitting), PACU (post op recovery) and PH II (recovery, discharge). Our nurses have the ability to work through all specialties in a fast-paced outpatient setting, meeting the needs of children ages 3 months to 20 years of age before and after surgery. In 2018, we performed 3200 surgeries in these specialty areas: ear, nose and throat (ENT); dental and oral surgery; endoscopy; colonoscopy; plastics; general surgery; ophthalmology; physiatry; and urology. Position Summary The Surgical Technologist is an integral member of the patient care team. The surgical technologist provides highly skilled intra-operative technical expertise and care for the surgical patient through planning and implementation of the needs of the surgical procedure. The wide variety of skills include; assisting the surgeon, set up and scrub all surgical procedures, and may specialize in a specific field such as cardiac or neurological surgery, or in addition a laser specialist, participates in specialty procedures outside the operating room. Functions as a call team member for all emergency procedures. The surgical technologist operates as the sterile team member on all surgical procedures. Responsible for aseptic technique and maintaining a sterile field while constantly anticipating surgeons needs. Utilizes knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology to anticipate the patients and surgeons needs before they arise to attain the best outcome for the patient and keeping surgical time to a minimum. Assists residents in transferring, repositioning and walking. Obtain vital signs accurately and reports changes in resident health status. Adheres to OSHA and CDC guidelines to minimize infections by following aseptic cleaning techniques, including those that apply to blood borne pathogens. Demonstrates safe and proper techniques for chemical use, and follows SDS guidelines for any exposure. Assists with preparing and serving nutritious, appealing meals and snacks to residents following orders, standards and regulations. Folds, hangs and distributes clean linens and personal clothing. Prepares and launders soiled linen / clothing. Cleans residents' rooms and bathrooms, work areas and other public areas. Takes part in community involvement in location and works with volunteers. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. High School Diploma or GED may be required based on working state. If working at a facility in which a lift is utilized to move residents, must meet the minimum state age requirement. Must complete and maintain assigned medication administration training program and competencies per state guidelines.
